what is perfection"? i mean really, i was thinking a bit about this today and i realised that how can you say nothing is perfect? some small things maybe but then i thought how earth has been supporting life for millions of years, it seems to do a pretty damn good job of it. i dont know, maybe i'm crazee but it made sense at the time. maybe its perfection when you percieve it that way, but if you never believe something can be perfect then there never will be!

feedback plz.

Well well....
Perfection is perception. What one person may find perfect, another may find flawed. In what way is the Earth perfect,it is perfect to support life now, but will it be in 20 years time? Is it perfect that we die? Is it perfect that we still suffer?

Objectively, it cant be defined, subjectively it can

on a microcosmic scale, Communism works, on a macrocosmic scale, it dont (Russia vs. Kibbutz)

Look at small things, they are perfection. A diamond? An Amoeba? The red blood cell?

I think that perfection for purpose can be attained, for example a Playstation 2 is perfect for playing GTA, but imperfect for playing Halo2, or bashing in nails,or ruling the world.

well the way i see it is that perfection is when something performs in a way that it is suppose to. so if something happens (past) then it happend the only way possible under the certain circumstances and therefore performed perfectly. but when something such as a plan, which is based in the mind where the subject defines the world's laws, is put into the real world where the objects define the laws things can be imperfect. that is things can not go according to plan.
*now heres the brain melter.*
so every object is perfect and every subject is imperfect. BUT because every object is subject to another object, everything is imperfect and therefore perfect.

did i lose anyone?

not me brain im right there with you wink

see i have always thought that perfection and PERCEPTION go hand in hand. i agree with the past being perfect because it could not have happened any other way, objects being perfect and so forth, but the matter of perfection is all in perceptions. while you may percive a plan falling apart, once it falls apart its the past, there for perfect, but in the present you dont see it that way, perception.........get what im saying

its pretty good knowing at least one person understands the giberish coming out of my mouth.

now i guess we just ahve to think about how the future relates to perfection. hmmmm.

hey wait a minute...once the future become the present it becomes the past...so is there any difference between the past and the present. and then the past influences the our actions in the future. but if we learn from the past to influence our future then how is are present actions different from future actions....so i guess the only perfect future action comes from a compleate understanding of the past...i need to take more history courses. ubblol

no you dont need more classes, you hit the nail on the head with that last statment, thats why i realy push history with my daughter, and shes only 5........you see while the past could not have happened any other way (making it perfect in a way) lets face truth here, ALOT of things that transpired(sp?) werent perfect at the time......so the only way to percive our future as being possibly perfect is to NOT let our past repeat itself, cause once it does its no longer the past, but the present, and no longer perfect, till it is the past.........its all about perception

You can't avoid pain by fencing yourself from it.

Perfection is all about perception in a broad sense, but as mentioned before, the simpler the situation, the easier it becomes to define perceptin via certain parameters.

A perfect game of 500 would be to bid 10 hearts, and to get 10 hearts. Nice and simple, as the rules are simple.

I also believe perfection is the 'perfect' goal, for arts and skills such as poi/staff, balloon sculpting, juggling etc etc. The concept of perfection is easy to see in your mind, and then it becomes a faster progression along the path towards that goal than without it.

Yet again, perfection can be defined as the "best possible result", and applied to all manner of things, particularly the best effort an individual committs to an action. Regardless of other people's achievements, that maximum effort by the individual is the perfect result for that indidvidual...

and...

plus...

as well as...

including...

etc etc etc

i dunno its a strange thing to think about, but really who can really determine wether something is perfect. I think you would never be able to determine or define what perfect is...i just think we like to think things in this world can be perfect...rather than inperfect... confused but hey thats just my thoughts : )

did you read all the posts firestarter? i think brain and fryed fish got it pretty good. i'd never considered the past and present bit, but it makes sense. if the past is perfect because it couldn't have happened any other way, then to repeat it would be imperfect, hence you should learn from the past.

well perfect can be used as an adverb or a adjective. *actions* can only happen one way in the past, but nouns change over time, and a mistake is the comparison between a mind's idea of a action and the actual action. so the only mistake is in the mind. that is it was a mistake that one thinks an action should be performed in a different way then it did.

If I could be granted one wish I would ask for all the questions of the universe.

suffering is an illusion.

Do you come along to the Tuesday spin Majestik?
i'm not sure i recognise you.

Do you know Raj?

Anyway. Imagine this.

Years in the future Nuclear war has decimated all infrustructure.
There is no Power. There is no Petrol for cars. there are no more banks so money is rendered useless.

Everyone lives in small communities in forest areas close to the coast line where there is fertile soil for farming and animals to hunt.
Your favourite band is your buddy with a guitar. your favourite food is the fish you caught and potatoes you dug up. Your expensive designer clothes wore away long before so Pelt's and Natural fibres are what keeps you warm. There is no fashion anymore. No ciggarette's. You brew your own beer.

Jugglers, spinners and anyone with a performance art talent is treated with upmost respect because there is no TV and entertainment is the human body and its movement and grace. Books are hot commodity and are traded like food supplies and equipment.

Everyone respects one another. There is no sefishness or shame.
Crime is punished by banishment from your community. Everyone loves one another. There is sharing and understanding.

And best of all. Your life will truly be what you make it. if you decide to just give up and be miserable you will be.
But if you work hard. enjoy life, respect your fellow man and be a good honest human being. then you will be happy.

Well. it looks like my idea of a perfect world is kinda strange yeah?
basically my idea of perfection is going back to the very basic's of survival.

Here are my commandments
Farm your food. make your entertainment. abandon your god. love your fellow man. work hard. Meditate. enjoy life. respect nature. respect yourself. live right.

Fair luna bright, fair luna moon
it shines at night but fades too soon
fair luna moon, fair luna bright
forever we dance
we dance under starlight

yet, in those times, there was widespread oppression, disrespect, lack of understanding, slavery and widespread warfare.

What factors do you think will be different in future 'primitive' communities to past ones; that will ensure the respect they lacked will prevail in future ones?
