Hello everyone!

My name is k8 and I just joined the forum a week or so ago.

I have been dancing with poi for about six months, so I'm still kind of a beginner. I took a few beginner lessons with an awesome awesome lady named Belva Stone last May because I had admired fire dancing for a pretty long time, but didn't know how to get started. Since then I have been going to spin jams around the Bay Area, self-learning from the videos on the HOP website (those videos helped tons for the behind the back weave which I'm just starting to get without smacking myself in the back of the head) and I've taken some intermediate classes at Temple of Poi (please don't hate me for that!)

ubbangel

Even though I am new to the art of dancing with fire I've been in love with it since the very first time I picked up a set of poi and I'm so excited about learning more and more in the months and years to come! Right now I really like working on underneath the leg moves so I am trying to be more flowy with them.

Good thing we have a coffee table on wheels in our living room so I can practice indoors at home biggrin

I'm also learning staff but feel more natural twirling with the poi at the moment.

Otherwise what can I tell you... I live in a flat with 3 roomies, love to go rollerblading, am a big fan of The Muppet Show (Sweetums is my fav), just saw I Heart Huckabees this weekend and enjoyed it very much.

Anyway I just want to share my love of dancing with fire with you all and am excited about knowing that there's a huge international community that is in touch here that also loves fire dancing too

ubblove

xo,

k8 hug

Hey! Welcome to HoP!!

I'm also one of Isa's students, but I don't think we've met in person yet. Maybe at a spin in the future?

You're working on the btb weave, eh? How exciting. I can't wait to go there. I don't feel like I'm quite there yet and besides, if I tried to absorb anymore info right now my head would explode.

Have fun bopping around HoP, and see ya around town!

taken out of context i must seem so strange

I actually move the coffee table out of the way. My roomie would probably kick my butt if I did poi on his supah nice coffee table!!!

I ubblove the color pink - in fact I am wearing a pink sweater right now smile

And sure let's share some chocolate! Yum!

I used to go to the Lake Merritt spin on Sundays but apparently we aren't allowed to go there anymore cause the police don't like it... *sniffle, sob*

You know what a fun song to spin fire to is? Mahna Mahna which is a Muppet Show song. I'm not sure that it's supposed to be Sweetums singing but it is definitely one of the big fluffy monstery guys.

BTB weave was hard for me to learn... it took me about 2 mos to get it right. Next on my list of "things to learn"/"goals" are throwing/catching my poi (I'm learning to juggle so I hope that helps!) and isolations. I also like playing with stalls. Actually I like it all!!! I get frustrated with isolations sometimes though cause I haven't gotten the arm motions down yet... soon though soon!

hug and thanks for the warm welcomes!!!

Hello and welcome. What part of the bay area do you live? I just moved from there about 6 months ago. I miss it. I'd be interested in knowing good places to spin up there as I tend to visit from time to time. smile
