Long long time ago I was sitting at my desk at work. I wasn’t doing anything interesting just the usual updating data bases and filing letters. Now at work there was a small mother a child group holding one of their special days for the kids. Up the stairs walked a man called Luke. He carried all of these strange things, said he came for the circus skills workshop day we were holding and asked for a helping hand. So I helped him to set things up.

We did a bit of juggling with balls and scarves. Balanced peacock feathers on our faces and we were really having fun. Then out of his bag he pulled some balls on string. One of the other mum’s faces lit up ran over and grabbed them with this huge smile on her face. As she went outside we all followed curious to what these things were. Before we knew what was truly going on we were mesmerized. The balls on string had what appeared to have streamers on the ends which made a gentle noise and the most amazing patterns I have ever seen. And all this from balls on string so I just had to have a go. I tried my best and my goodness was it harder than it looked.

As soon as I got home the internet was switched on before the kettle. I had to find out what they were called. So I googled “Spinning balls on strings”

The first site I came to was called Home Of Poi so I double clicked to see what it was all about. I first read the history and then thought would go and have a look in the gallery. Talk about shocked…. It could be done with Fire!!! And there was a huge community dedicated to it… and not just one online community but loads all over he world. Why had I never heard of this before? How do I make them? And where could I learn just how to do it? So I searched the forum, read loads of posts and then Huzahhh I found the free online Poi lessons. Straight upstairs I ran to get the longest pair of socks I could find then ran back down again trying to find matching balls or just something to put in the bottom ad tied a knot at the top. Next step was to click on the first lesson…..

And that’s the day I got hooked to Poi.

Since then I have been to quite a few meets and have started our own which has infected lots more people in our town to learn to spin.

I do more now than just Poi and for the first time in my life have a whole bunch of fantastic friends who I feel I can turn to for anything life throws at me.

Who am I? Well………………….

My kid's phone takes photos. But they need a bright light to be good. In fact he took the jacdaw pic, and that's really dark.

Why can't you eat many foods? Is it a choice thing, like being vegan, or another thing?
Or am I being nosey?

since having morgan i have not been able to have wheat, gluten, startch, most dairy, caffine, sugar, it sucks big time, when he was born he was dairy and egg intolorant and went down to 5lbs we called him chicken wing cause that what his arms looked like when you stretched them. he is ok now and when he got discharged from the hospital i brought him his first pack of dairy milk buttons..... he loves his choclate now.lol
if i do eat something that i am not supposed to i bloat up 4" and it hurts like hell, i also have ISB which excuse the pun is a pain in the ass, will not tell you how they found it out but it involved a very small camera!!! ubbloco

Poor you!
I've heard of food intolerances, occassionally wondered if I had some cos of a few problems, but the only thing I'm sure of is that cranberries bring my neck out in a rash!
I don't think I could live without the things you mention. especially caffine. It get's me up in the morning and keeps me awake all night. What would I do without it?
I'm glad Morgan's ok, it must have been a real worry for you. He looks a healthy little chap now, and so cute ubblove

i still have the coffee and sugar and some dairy, because otherwise life would suck far too much. its like being on a constant atkins diet and i long for i huge yorkshire pudding filled with mash and gravy i woke up really hungry and could murder a full sunday roast frown its a pain but bugger all i could do about it so there is no point complaining i guess...its just so boring
yeah we were really worried about morgan when he was born, he had asthma and exema too caused mainly by his food problems but also not helped by us living near a landfill site of a place where they burned bones etc etc. he was deaf for the first 6 months of his life and had got chicken pox by the time he was 7 weeks...lol. he was behind with so many thing developmental wise but he's a fighter and a little rat bag and has done us proud. he only has to have his inhailers not even once a month and his skin isn't bad at all. all well now and that is what matters.

That must have been such a terrible time for you all. Poor little Morgan, talk about everything happening at once!
As you say, if all is well now, that's what matters. And he looks both happy and healthy on the photos.
My brat child had some problems, he was well behind with everything, walking, talking (not eating, it was like having a dustbin bin in a nappy).
I thought he would never talk, then he did and he has never shut up since! He grunts alot, but I suppose that's normal.
They wanted him to go to a special school, but I wouldn't let him, and now he's got his own flat and every thing. There's still some physical problems, but at least he's all there in the head. (at least he says he is. I'm not so sure. Anyone that cares that much about their traners has to be a sndwich short of a picnic)

It's hard having kid's, isn't it.
I always foung I blamed myself for anything that went wrong with my son, like I was responsible for everything that happened, wether it was him falling over or some toy breaking. Too much pressure, and most of it self inflicted.
He turned out ok, so I must have done something right!
It's a hard world for everyone, I think. It's hard for kids too, they haveall this pressure about what they should have and how they should look, all that crap. And then there's all the fear from stuff they hear on TV, diseases, paedos, wars, allthat and more. It can't be easy making sense of it all.
But we all get through one way or another.
I hope tomorrow is a better day for you and yours.

Hello again
I've had a bitch of a day to be honest.
I shut the door on my foot and ripped it open. My bloke (The worrier) insisted that I went to A&E, and it hurt so much I went, and I was also worried about all the dirt on the door.
So, of course, we wait in A&E for hours, and finally someone sees me and he puts some stinging disinfectant on it, glues it back together and says that it was nothing to worry about.
The subtext of course was, why was I wasting everybodys time? was I some kind of hypochondriac or what? Don't I know the NHS is underfunded, understaffed and overstretched....etc.

So, that wasted a whole day and made me feel stupid. next time I'm going to have to have abone sticking out beforeI go there again!
ubblol

Anyway, I'm ok.

How about you?
Better than mine I hope.

Today I can laugh at it a bit, though yesterday I was a bit miffed.

Good luck with work, can't you skive a few more sick days?

Tomorrow we have 'family' coming.
We are living in fear and cleaning like crazy.

if i lived closer i would come and clean for you i love cleaning, its rather odd, as for work...i actaully enjoyed being back although i have 3 weeks worth to catch up on grrrrrr. so will be playingcatch up for a week.
hope everything goes great with your family anyway, and its good you can laugh about yesterday now..... if it helps i gave myself a bloody nose and black eye last night....poi.lol enough said

Cleaning?
You like cleaning?
That's strange...
I could move back to the midlands ...
We had at least a years to catch up on, and in the end we said F it, he can take us as he finds us and if hedon't like it he can F off.
So mostly we left it.
Although we did expose a couple of chairs from beneath the accumulated debris.
Hope you eye and nose are feeling better.
I think that the btb weave would be worth an injury or two
(Not that I'd know, *sulk*)
Hope all is well with you.

ok, we definitely aren't talking about the french then - I mean it is one thing to collect french people, but I can't imagine anyone from the UK calling them wise....

so that leaves to reason we are in fact talking about amphibians, which makes me much happier.
