Hi guys.
I am hoping someone can help me with some ideas.
In 1993 I left this tow called Roxby Downs which is in the middle of South Australia and I left behind a VERY good friend of mine
Now in 2004 I am trying to find him desperately.
I have tried to find him before and failed miserable but that may be due to my lack of conviction.
I have tried numerous Australian reunion websites in search of him and have done searches through the web but to no avail.
I only have his first and last name and his old address to go by and was hoping maybe someone here would have some kind of idea of how to go about locating him.
I know this sounds weird but he and I were very close and he used to be my inspiration when I wrote my books.
I have now hit a blank wall with my writing and I think that maybe finding him might be of some help to me.
I also had multiple dreams about him last night and now I can't get them out of my head.
Does anyone have any ideas?

na seriously medusa, erm im not very knowledgeable about those reunion sites and i guess its pretty unreliable cos loads of people dont register, have you tried trying to trace him through his old address like contacting the current tenants and seeing if they know where he moved onto?

I'm not sure how it works in Australia but in the UK there are records of births, deaths and marriages kept and electoral roles. You can ask to see them for the town he lived in and see if anything shows up, like a marriage or a child with his name as the father. The electoral role will show you if he moved out of the area because he will stop registering to vote in that town. Oh no, you don't do it like us do you. Voting is compulsory in Aussie isn't it.
Try a small ad in the local paper. People may remember him and know where he has gone.

this may be the over idealised only happen in films way of doing it - but maybe contact whoever lives in the house now, the neighbours - people who may have been in the town a while and may know where he's moved on to... someone may know something and then you can follow the trail and go on a roadtrip, take a director and get a hit movie!!
otherwise any mutual friends you can contact? but i reckons ad like skully said might be an idea, maybe not even a local one, a national one, he might see it, although that could be a long shot...

if you're determined to find them, write to "The Occupier" at the old address and ask if they know anything (make sure it's obviously not an evil chain letter) and, as politely as you can, ask them if they know anything. Put a stamped addressed envelope inside, and a phone number and e-mail address.
They might never reply, but it's a start!

Or this is probably the most fun of them all look at all the people in the phone book with his name and call everyone you never know what kind of psychotics you'll find, hell you could write a book using their conversations alone

my dad & his sis were separated when he was 6 and his sister was 4. my dad was raised in dublin, ireland, and his sister in coventry, uk. they were separated over 45 years, despite various attempts at finding each other through agencies which claim to specialise in finding long lost relatives & friends.
in the end they were reunited with the aid of good ole dublin telephone directory. his sister managed to get hold of the dublin phone book and decided she'd ring every Christopher Dunne listed in dublin.
my dad was the 3rd person she called...
and so they lived happily ever after......

...but have you tried schoolfriends.com.au? they list tons of people (who've registered) from schools all around oz...your friend might be there...you never know! and also if you register you can put a notice thingy on there saying you're searching for your friend!

I too have lost touch with loads of people I'd like to talk to again in South Africa and have no idea how to do it. I spose I may bump into them at some stage but i've all but given up at this stage. Do a google or too every now and then but none of them has become famous or built a freaking website or nothing yeeeettt.....
