Hey there everyone,

Well, now that I'm close to post number 300 I thought I'd do an intro thread... it seems like I'll be hanging around for a while now biggrin

Edit:

Yep, this is all changed cos I'm not feeling as sentimental as I was when I wrote the last intro.

I'm 28, live outside Belfast in Northern Ireland, run the fire performance group FirePoise (www.firepoise.com), like to travel and good music.

My myspace page is www.myspace.com/clarepalmer

Take care

bye

Possibly. It's hard to tell.

I generally turn up when ever somebody mentions crocodiles or Captain Hook. Right now i have resurfaced because Miss Star required anti-troll defences in her intro and I thought my razor sharp teeth and strong, powerful jaws would come in handy. When that emergency is over I may well slip away back into the ether again.

So erm yeah it turns out that Hook's bane was born after Charles wrote this post:

Like you can actually catch a fairy with that method anyway...

It's easier to catch an angel than a fairy, and angels are no piece of cake anyway.

Everyone seems to think fairies are cute, helpless little beings that wouldn't hurt a fly.

Go ask Captain Hook how helpless fairies ar, aye???

Hey beautiful lady hug

Am feeling rather nervous just now.

There's talk of up to 10,000 dead in the US. That is such a huge number of people, just gone ubbcrying

Fuel prices are soaring (not quite sure why). shrug

That's having a knock on effect around the world... fuel could reach £1 a litre here soon.
And that's going to bring it's own problems.

Sigh.

(in case you are interested) it's already 99p/litre here shrug

That's a GOOD thing IMO - means people should think more about what they are using it for and be more economical in their journeys....etc.

But all the other stuff is unbelievably scary.
If you press mute, it looks like all the other refugee pictures from all over the world. (famine, tsunami, war etc.....) The only difference seems to be that we can understand what is being said this time round, and that makes the inhumanity of it all harder to take. I'm not being unsympathetic - I'm moved beyond words and angry and upset, but at the same I feel that more importance is being attatched to the suffereing of the people because we can understand them and their cries of help, rather than being able to discount it as 'third world hysteria' etc.

Random thoughts. Probably not the place for them but ah well.

Mucho big hug2 because I have been thinking about you this morning kiss

Lol... never worry lady... you know what, this is the first time I saw those posts... strange that I should miss them, considering the inordinate amount of time I spend on this website redface

Anyways, humblest apologies... smile

Cantus, merci pour the roses, they are beautiful and look like they smell incredible too biggrin

Fluff... thanks for thinking of me and thanks for the camels. biggrin

You know I appreciate you dropping in here with thoughts and musings any time you want... it beats the usual nonsense biggrin (and yes, I love the nonsense too rolleyes )

So then... yep, the price here is up to 96.9p per litre... Should hit a pound by the weekend.

It is good that some people will be forced into alternative arrangements for transport - the school run, for example. But I am worried that these prices will hit hardest those who can least afford it.

The unemployed and small businesses spring to mind (because that includes me rolleyes), but there's also local agriculture and public transport (forcing rises in the price of food and buses and trains) - in fact, all of us need fuel in some way or another and such rises could have a devastating effect.

As for the events in America... yes, it is desperately sad. ubbcrying

But it is also inevitable that with growing populations more people will die as a result of natural disasters (not to mention the climate change that we are bringing on ourselves).

What was really sad about last week was that the response was so slow. That despite the warnings, emergency plans were not up to scratch and people were simply left to die. We have been told for so long that America is the strongest, wealthiest, bestest nation - but they were crippled under the weight of Mother Nature the same as any other country.

This is not something to gloat over, but something that should wake us all out of any sense of complacency that somehow we will escape, or that these things only happen to other people. One day our time will come, so we should try to be at peace with ourselves now - enjoying every moment and suchlike.

Anyways, you're right Fluff, it did seem to make a difference that we could understand the screams for help. It gave an increased sense of helplessness and frustration. shrug

Of course, it shouldn't make a difference at all - we're all human - whether or not we can speak that particular language. Screams for help should be no less terrifying in Thai than in American.

But I guess it's also a symptom of being human that we want to identify and connect with others (subconscious fears of being alone?!!), and so we find comfort in the smallest similarities - nationality, sex, colour, language, firespinner or not.

When in the end, we're all just the bloody same.

Sigh. Thinking of you too beautiful fairy... I hope you are having a relaxing and marvellous time. hug

(Incidentally, I am watching the most spectacular sunset from my window.

The sun sets behind the Antrim hills across the lough, and as it sets, casts a brilliant reflection of orange and red on the usually grey and murky stretch of water that leads up to Belfast. Clouds are sparse and whispy, signalling a passing day of clear skies and sunshine... Those clouds are suspended there like trails left by a tractor in a field, and as a treat for anyone who chooses to watch them perform, turn silver and gold, transitioning into brilliant yellows, dusty reds and greyish pinks before succumbing to that cold bluey grey of dusk. Thanks smile )

Hurrah

I'm drunk biggrin

We came 3rd in the puv quiz (well, joint 2nd but we lost the tie break) and then lost more money on the quiz machine.

i can't really focus and have work tomorrow.

I've also discovered that the 2 cd's I made for you, the second one wasn't right, so I won't be posting them tomorrow frown

Plus, tomorrow, first day back to work after 2 weeks off due to sick leave, I'm going to have a hangover...

Woo.

Hugs and fluff...
