Hey there everyone,

Well, now that I'm close to post number 300 I thought I'd do an intro thread... it seems like I'll be hanging around for a while now biggrin

Edit:

Yep, this is all changed cos I'm not feeling as sentimental as I was when I wrote the last intro.

I'm 28, live outside Belfast in Northern Ireland, run the fire performance group FirePoise (www.firepoise.com), like to travel and good music.

My myspace page is www.myspace.com/clarepalmer

Take care

Hellooooooo my lovely. Thank you so much for everything. Hugs, smiles, patience, directions, love, care, attention, perfectly blissful poi, sillyness, transport, buckfast, fluffy purple hattage, unrivaled energy (except maybe for Cameron's), and so many other things that I can't remember.

I hope you come to Falmouth - it would be wonderful to see you again soon -

Ed, it was a pleasure to see you again... the hugs were lovely... and I know you'll be feeling much stronger by the next time I see you smile

Strugz... aww darlin, it was so good to see you again. I didn't get to speak to you or Cole or Lisa or Helz at all, which is utterly crap - but that was because I was completely bollocksed. redface

Damn rain. At least the smoking is usually broken by healthy doses of dancing rolleyes smile

Durbs.... you know I love you wink Tee hee hee. I don't think Mrs Durbs exists at all and I think that you went to Italy all by yourself. So perhaps you should come to Belfast and teach me how to drum, CJ and dance funkily, among other things. tongue biggrin Hehehehe. Sorrys, am missing you too.

Anyways.

Thank you for finding this thread...

What a week. ubbloco

Last weekend in UberEdinburgh.

Mid-week with my friend in Glastonbury.

This weekend, smoking in a field in Falmouth.

I've had the most incredible time so I'm going to share some thoughts... no doubt it'll get quite repetitive about half way down (too many 'incredible's and 'amazing's) biggrin

My life has bimbled along in a haze for the past few months.

I made the decision to stop planning things and let them happen... but became bored with poi, bored with spinning, fed-up living here and just generally uncomfortable and dis-satisfied.

It sounds ridiculous and flippant to place so much emphasis on twirling some rice in socks about, but this trip has given me so much to think about. Direction. Renewed interest - positivity.

Drew, Andy and Arashi showed me that it's actually a good thing to move smile

Watching them really use their bodies to control the poi was fascinating, and frankly, quite erotic. They pour love and grace into what they do and it is reflected in every turn of their hips, head and hands. More men should know that this is the way to get chicks biggrin

At those times when I forgot there was anyone watching, I was able to find some kind of expression through dancing with my poi. Some point (somewhere off in the distance) to why we do this. It felt really good biggrin My poi are there for me to dance with and, in a way, to hide behind.

Andrea and Nik (yep, the infamous Meenik smile) gave me good conversations, perfect compound circles (eek smile ) and most unexpectedly, a new poet to explore. Thank you to you both, and I hope the future holds peace for you. I'm thinking about you Andrea - take care of yourself x

Matt (spherculism geek smile ) is incredible. He wibbles and bounce-wibbles and is lovely and friendly and has a really nice cardigan that suits him very much. He gave me balls biggrin He's also very cute. smile

Rob - oh god. This man is a legend. Organising supremo. Didn't get stressed at all while looking after 45 stoner poi geeks in a city full of distraction. The workshops were great, the cafe was frickin splendid and he didn't get too pissed off when continually assaulted for hugs biggrin hug biggrin

In fact, all the Pooks are just inspirational, wonderful, creative people. I wandered round Pook HQ when I arrived - wow. Costumes, make-up and toys from floor to ceiling. I met with Tree and Kenn and went for drinks with Gos (great lady, full of positivity and energy). Euan and Vero let us all come round for dinner at theirs.

The pooks are all friendly, beautiful people who, surprisingly, have absolutely no idea how respected they are among the rest of us.

I saw the Walk in the Forest video - can you imagine being 10-years-old and going on a dull walk through the forest because you had to - when suddenly these nutcases on stilts in full costume and bodypaint appear between the trees? Or people start dancing with fire, or figures are illuminated on a huge sheet moving between the trees?!!

You'd never want to leave!!

I wish I had seen something like that when I was growing up - to have had something so mythical and magical enter my imagination.

Sigh biggrin Anyways, yes. Uberpoi was fantastic.

For those who wanted to learn funky stuff - Coleman took some great workshops, which unfortunately, I missed. Puh. Next time, I'm bringing a video camera and taping the ones I'm too knackered to take part in smile

Olive (cute French guy - looked a bit like Keanu Reeves) waited around patiently while I took ages to get ready every morning hug thanks smile

American Dan and 2bags competed for craziest fool all week. I love them both - so much manic energy! These guys look forward to making you smile like a 6-year-old looks forward to Christmas.

Dan and his Tiger Balm fetish (which I finally agreed to in front of a select audience redface wink), and Steve with his balancing-a-shopping-trolley-or-ladder-or-anything-else trick.

You guys will always be remembered.

To Lisa, Ronan, Eimhin, Aidan, Amelie, Cameron, Simon and Colleen - it was great to see you all again - the Irish crew rocks. Seriously. We do. biggrin Hope to see you all again soon hug

Alright... this has gone on too long. In Mags stylee... I shall stop now biggrin

And start again biggrin

I'm trying to remember everyone who I talked with last week - but it was such a close group that's almost everyone!

Nate, Mand, Simian, Dunc, beautiful George - and everyone else who came together to make up a fantastic party - thank you.

And Dom... lol. Thank you for dinner kiss And I won't tell anyone about all those little HoP secrets biggrin

So then... on Tuesday I flew to Bristol to stay with my childhood friend Jayne. She skivved off work and took me to Glastonbury.

Heheheheh.

Glastonbury (if you haven't been before) is like a little haven of hippy shops. Crystals, incense and lots of lovely clothes. We wandered round there for the day, got a little present to thank Dan for buying us dinner at Uberpoi, then went back to hers and did some washing.

It was really nice to catch up with a non-spinning friend... I've known Jayne since we were both 5, and this was the first time I'd seen her new home and chatted properly to her husband.

On Thursday, they left me to Bath where I met Gayle and Neal and Skully - and we missioned down to Falmouth.

It was a tight squeeze among the tents, purple hats and paraffin, but we made it in good time - passing Puresock and Chris on the way biggrin (we recognised the firestaffs attached to the roofrack, lol).

Thursday night was fantastic - a great community on the beach, enjoying the bonfire and spinning under a perfect sky.

Friday (ermmm, if I remember right smile ) was spent under a tarp hiding from the very hot sunshine. I was feeling a bit subdued on friday, and unfortunately that feeling didn't really leave all weekend.

I was thinking lots and taking some time to be by myself... sorry if I confused anyone hug

Saturday and Sunday were both rather wet. I spent most of it dodging the holes in the tarp and trying to muster the energy to go spin (or pee) in the rain. I failed on both (ermm, I managed the peeing, though) smile

Saturday night took us all on a huge mission out to another beach (the Maenporthers became concerned about hundreds of firespinners turning up on their beach. Hmmm.) But it was worth it - there was some lovely spinning, including the incredible French guy Julien and his amazing fire fans.

Fair play to Mags and everyone who came to Falmouth for showing respect to the neighbours, looking after the place and generally being aware. I can't imagine there are many groups of that size so considerate of their surroundings.

On Sunday night we were given a present by the gods who had finally heard our pathetic cries of 'stop the rain, we can't smoke any more'.

A beautiful, bright rainbow opened across the sky and cheered everyone up. We started playing again, and Jonny UCOF (and his amazing boy scout skills biggrin) got the fire started up again. We ended up with a huge bonfire in the campsite and lots of brilliant spinning - including the highly-impressive firework poi/staff.

Thank you to Mags, Ros and Nik for the dance smile

On Monday, I came back to Bristol with Gayle and Neal and Skully (how did we have more stuff coming back than going!?!) and they fed me and delivered me safely to the airport.

So now I am home. I feel inspired, and happy for those experiences... but sad because I miss you all and I miss the positivity that exists among the community.

I have no idea what lies ahead for me. It feels like there will be change. But I'm trying not to think about it too much - to trust in this idea that the best opportunity will present itself.

I want to thank Rob and the tarp corner for your company at Falmouth.

Thanks to Mags for the organisation and dealing with the hassle.

Thanks to Skully, Gayle and Neal for the safe driving and car fun.

UCoF - Jon, I love you to bits. Thanks for letting me share your tent, and thanks for the cuddles. kiss

Thanks to Ros, Meg, Strugz, Cole, Lisa, Helz, Durbs, Julien and everyone who inspired me, talked to me or hugged me.

Take care and see you all sometime

Clare xx

Claire don't be sad, you will soon be back with us all in a field somewhere having fun and in the mean time you can think about all the fun we've had.

As for the Future, well you know I never plan more than a few days ahead. I have hopes to do things, and be places but I never am sure, so I only deal with 2 days ahead and that way things turn out ok. You have lots of people that admire and love you. Never will you want for a roof over your head or food in your belly as long as I have it to share with. So fear not and head on off with a sense of wonder and joy and grasp each day and each new challenge with the same joy that watching you spin gives me biggrin

Wow.

Have a LOAD of these: hug hug hug hug hug

I'm really glad that you had an amazing week. That story was amazing. I had no idea you weren't feeling 100%. You always seemed all cheery and smiley when I saw you and hugged you. Multiple times.

It means a lot to me that you actually had the power to make me spin on Sunday night. I was feeling a bit [censored], and you made me do something that wasn't sitting and smoking and falling ever deeper into the circle. And you came to me and kept on trying to get me to talk to you about what was going on with me, but to no avail. But you didn't give up after the first time. I can't remember anyone actually doing something like that for me before. That meant a lot to me and I'm so sorry I didn't take the opportunity to talk to you.

Hugs aren't enough for you. You made me feel like someone cared again, and that things were worthwhile. Thank you for restoring a bit of my faith in the world. You're a very special person.

First of all... fair play for reading all that!!! I didn't realise til afterwards how long it was redface

I had a splendid time, and I was fine - just quiet and stoned smile Looking back, I probably should have made more of an effort to go talk to people... rolleyes

God, I hope I didn't hassle you too much Ed. I get that way sometimes, but usually when it's obvious to me that someone needs to talk.

You don't have to tell me or anyone else your problems - but I'm always here on PM if you need me.

And to be honest, I think you are well on the way to resolving any issues you have all by yourself. You are a lovely young man, kind and decent and you need to have faith and believe that about yourself (bearing in mind, of course, that we all have issues and the only way to deal with them is to keep going).

We all care about you. You just need to care about yourself biggrin
