Hello

wavehello

hmmmmmm what to write about me as an intro.....damn its make or break time. First impressions are so vital. Oooooo the pressure.

I'm living in South Wales but originate from Essex (No I don't own White stillettos and No I'm not an Essex girl!). I don't bite, I do pinch, I love chocolate and I one day plan on learning lots of stuff I can't do yet.

Hobbies:- include juggling, balls juggleand clubs , Diablo, poi, doodling, music, hating housework (dust is natures way of showing what the burglars have stolen), making things, pulling things to bits (mainly to see how they work) , embarrassing my nieces and nephews (great fun hobbie that all aunties should take up), hugging trees and talking to bees (watch out for the squirrels......they ARE out to get you!)

Ambitions:- Never to grow up. Learn how to burn things safely ubbangel To that ends learning how to poi without stunning myself, blacking my eye or turning myself into a human torch. Learn to play more than one tune on the guitar. Rule the World. Learn to Surf. Conquer my fear of heights. Travel the world in a van with a man named Bob ("why Bob?" you ask...well why not Bob? I'm sure there are loads of nice men called Bob out there! Simons and Johns need not apply).

Boring stuff:- work in sales to pay the bills.

Any idea roughly when it started?

No I've not installed anything new. It started about 5 days ago when it first rebooted it self saying something about power problem to the something or other. I did a virus scan earlier and it told me it couldn't access the old hard drive and stopped scanning at that point. It's bee rebooting it self a few times before that I thought I had picked up a virus or something.

The fan on the ridge silver hot box shaped thing attached to the mother board is knackered too so I need a new one of those. Where should I get one Mr Fix it biggrin

Mine doesn't look as posh as that but yes thats the kind of thing. I'll have to sell a hoop or two before I'll have the cash for it though. Are they kind of universal fitting or do I have to have one specifically designed for my hot silvery thing?

The broken one is like this. and has the same part number on it apart from a missing H at the end. It measures the same too. but it is a rubbish fan. Do I have to have the same or can I have a better one that will fit?

You may well need to buy a specific one frown
But you may not.. shrug

Bugger... Im tempted to advise you to find someone who knows what they are doing properly.

Ive had a little to drink, so I cant properly think about something like this. I'll be back in the morning.

I would ask you to take the heatsink (the silvery ridged thing) and the fan off, but if you dont know what you are doing, you could snap the motherboard, leaving you with a useless computer frown

To be honest, I would be tempted to say if you can get a picture of how the heatsink attatches to the motherboard, then I (or Polarity, Sym, myself (or a combination thereof)) can tell you which to get.

Most of the time, you cant simply buy a new fan, you need to get a new heatsink as well.

So, I would say, buy that part from Rl, and when it arrives have a look to see if it like the one in there at the moment. If it is, then then try and fit it yourself. If you snap the motherboard, go round to your sister and use her computer! ubblol

As you would say: "pffft...boys!" wink

I have taken the fan off already it was just clipped in place with 2 wire bits. It was the wire bits that had broken the fan because the blades of the fan had caught on on of then amd pulled the fan open so that it couldn't turn any more.

Is it doing harm to my puter me running it now? I have the side off to try and keep it a bit cooler.....
