So I am in one of the computer rooms in the hospital right now. Our hospital is very sophisticated computer-wise and they're always playing with new technologies. So down in the ER offices is a room for the residents. They have this one computer set up with a three-monitor set up and a perfectly positioned keyboard and mouse. So I have three web browser windows open (one on each monitor, which are laid out in a line and angled so that I barely have to turn my head to look at each one) and then I barely even have to move my hands to go from keyboard to mouse.
I feel like I'm plugged into the matrix. This computer is apparently supposed to be designed to allow us to read radiology films (MRI, CT, X-ray, etc), which is why it has all the monitors.
They're also apparently thinking about starting to use headware monitors, which are monitors that you wear like a pair of glasses. They apparently are the visual equivalent of looking at a full-sized movie screen from a comfortable distance, so they reduce eyestrain.
All this is SO COOL!!!

I've got a 3 monitor set-up at work as well, but not quite as nice as yours. 2 flat screen monitors are attached to one computer and the third to a laptop. I look at 2D gels rather frequently and the dual monitors come in handy when you are trying to see differences between a control sample and an infected or treated one. Eye strain is a b*tch, I do agree.
