On our trip to the beach when we drank a stupid amount of bacardi and red bull, (Only flag poi!) then I forgot how to do it when I sobered up, though I also couldn't really move: I had the shakes from all the excess caffeine! and then I managed to pull it off again in my garden smile No more red bull for me ta! spank

Hello Oli
wave
My first time was in a park in Camberwell, South London just over a year ago (well, to be exact it was a very cold Saturday afternoon in February 2003). We were supposed to be passing 6 clubs and Alex taught me with two juggling clubs, it took about ten minutes for me to get it, he then proclaimed how amazed he was that i learnt it so quickly. Having said that I didn't do it with actual Poi until the Bristol convention in Seprember last year (03).

Having learnt it I probably do it now about once a month!

In a good friends back yard. It was spin practice night and someone had handed me some racquetballs on the end of chains after I had a few beers. Several hours later, I was still spinning, very bruised, but I could now do the weave as well as lots of other things. I obviously didn't care if I hit myself or not, and just kept right on going. That was about 3 years ago.

To this day I still refuse to practice with racquetballs. I much prefer my stuffed frogs.

i first did a weave on holiday in Treyarnon Bay in cornwall, the weekend before glastonbury last year! weavesmiley

There had been a mix up and we had been double booked, so the lady who made the mistake put us in the only other property she had free which happened to be on the beach and was a mansion with its own swimming pool, balconies, perfect weather, massive barbeque, young scantily clad women...mmmmmmmm all in all a great holiday with loads of Poi and sun! biggrin

I think its a good kind of environment to learn poi in and should be available to everyone for free!, all year round! weavesmiley beerchug biggrin

If you go to the link you can see the house we stayed in is on the rightof the picture and the beach on which i started learning poi! biggrin

Well my very very first time was for a couple of minutes with a person who was camping near me at Reading Festival last year, but it wasnt till about 2 months later i got my very first own proper poi where i basically learnt how to use by myself..which i think is why I am a slow learner.

But this year when i go to reading festival i am gonna be showing off biggrin

On Grafton St in Dublin at about 4 in the morning last October-ish ubbloco

Had been practising with one hand for some time, but couldn't manage both without tangling, until some random stranger stopped me for a light, started talking about lots of stuff, including poi, of which I had a pair in my bag, and so he proceeded to show me how it was done.

Managed to pull it off that night, but couldn't remember it at all the next day. Finally got it again in the kitchen about 2 weeks later..... ubbrollsmile

My mind not only wanders, it sometimes leaves completely smile

OH!!! You meant with poi! ubbangel

I actually didn't learn the basic weave series with poi at all. I learned with flags. I "invented" the two-beat weave on my own whilst learning how to spin flags in my back yard in college. I also "invented" the windmill and the corkscrew.

Some months later, I was at a rave spinning flags and someone handed me glowsticks on strings. I said "I can't do those."

"Sure you can!" he said. And he was right!

wow lightning, you beat me to the pervy comments biggrin

if i recall correctly, i was at a house party about 3 years ago. i had already managed to learn the butterfly but for some stupid reason could not get the weave. so i stood there in the living room for hours on end just practicing and i finally got it.

I was always scared with my mother's obsession with the good scissors. It made me wonder if there were evil scissors lurking in the house somewhere.

Man have i got some memories from that place. Truely awsome.

Think my first time was in the summer of 2001. It was a day after a party where i saw some girl spinning. It was my lunch break and i decided to make some poi. (if thats what you could call them) 2 bits of wood tied to some string. Anyway it just clicked straight away. I think it was where i watched this girl so intensely it just kinda stuck in my head. But then i didn't spin again till nearly 2 and a half years later. Now i know about 3 moves so i think im on a roll. biggrin Give it a couple more years and i think i might have all the free lessons down! ubblol

Oh, the first time -those sweet memories ubblove ubblove
I went to an art school at one of the most beautiful locations in Denmark (its actually a castle in the middle of the forrest right next to a small lake), I think it was 4 years ago. There I met some of the best ppl ever..One of the friends I made there, David, and I sometimes did yoga and juggling stuff together, and one day he showed me how to do the weave with a pair of clubs.. It wasn't till last summer I picked up poi though, but I remember the feeling the first time i felt that flow...Mmmm ubbrollsmile

3 beat weave just came sorta naturally to me. I saw a friend spinning glowsticks at school and I said, "What the hell are those?!" and he showed me, picked them up, he said "Cross your hands over to the other side" and I automatically did 3 beat weave instead of 2. He said, "Mmkay, I gotta teach you how to spin, that's too cool". Been hooked ever since smile

mine was outside a pub in sheff with a lil sexy lady frined of mine telling me how to do it, after i went to the park (24hrs after starting) and being intimidated by someone on a bank spinning, so i didnt spin....

and she showed me and i got it in a couple of hours, down and dusted, and it all went from theere

my reverse 3bt is a diff story, i had been trying to get his move for months (6 infact) and it just wasnt falling into place, my hands just werent moving, until i got out of bed one morning, and though,

"oh well i may as well try it again"

so i picked yo two pair of boxers, and i did it for a few beats, i threw on som ebaggies, and ran outside with my poi, i could finaly do 3bt wave! :d
