A very, very newbie seeing as I only got my first set of poi yesterday!

Anyway - I saw someone using fire poi at a campsite last summer and thought it was one of the most wonderful and mesmerising things I had ever seen. so six months down the line I thought I may as well give it a go myself (though the fire can wait till I stop banging my head around the head with my poi!). ubbloco

Anyway - I just wondered how old most people here were when they started, cos I'm 28 (that just sounds worse each time I think about it) and don't want to think of myself as too old!

As for anything else you need to know about me, my name is Amanda, though I also go by Am, Mand, Daisy, Maggot, Kestrel and FaerieGirl.

Sex: Female

Age: 28

Location: Surrey, England

Your favourite website/s: This one is pretty damn good!

Favourite Toys: My brand new poi which keep hitting me on the head

Been twirling: Erm... this morning biggrin

Occupation: Computery bad-ness (but free internet throughout the day!)

Hobbies: being outside, dancing, festivals, magic, music, being alive

Music: Ani DiFranco, Tori Amos, Outkast, Alex Parks, The Calling, pretty much anything from musicals to rap

Movies: Finding Nemo, all the Die Hards, X-Men, The Beach, Almost Famous

Books: anything by Charles DeLint at the moment

Favourite Colour: Green

Favourite Quote/Saying: There can be no rainbow without a storm and a cloud.

Greetings Amanda.

We have a resident HoP'r named Mand (on HoP), though she's off in the wilderness of Wales through May, then the wilderness of France through September.

I'm 32, and I started playing and working with poi when I was 28/29. biggrin Age of folks on here really does vary.

Please feel free to stop by our intro threads to say hello. We don't bite, usually. biggrin

Welcome to the madness.

Yay-ness for lovely friendly people!!! However, I've just discovered that other people have done the *form thing* so am going to edit my original post.

Another Mand? How cool, never met someone else who shortens it to that.

Glad I'm not too old, it's something I'm always fixated about, silliness really...

Camping was at a scout camp late last summer (I help out with a Guide unit and we took fifteen of them away for a few days). Can't remember where the campsite itself was, somewhere in the middle of nowhere, but was very lovely!

They'll only think you're bonkers until you dazzle them with your skills (in a couple months anyways!) and then they'll all want to try!

I was always scared with my mother's obsession with the good scissors. It made me wonder if there were evil scissors lurking in the house somewhere.

welcome to HOP, enjoy your stay !

28's not old!
I'm 27 and still going strong but my arthritis and tennis elbow do slow me down and my tired old fingers do struggle to type on these new-fangled computer devices.
wink bobbins to that, only as old as you feel, keep practicing and check out the free lessons, you'll soon be twirling with style!

Hello Amanda - welcome.

28 is NOT OLD. I started last year - I was 29. In fact I think it's better this way - if you're a little more mature you're less likley to burn your hair off, I think eek
