Ok just posted this in my intro thread but though it should be here so a quick copy/paste and shazzam.......
I was thinking today, (yes that was the noise) if I get a special link (that I have in mind so no knicking my ideas!
) for my poi handles, I could make it so they snap together/come apart real easily and I could do meteor stuff and then sperate them to do the other poi stuff that isn't really possible with meteors.
I'd call them Poiteors and I think they'd be dead good.....whadya reckon?

Where was it done before? I did a search but twas fruitless.
They'd be able to go back and forth from poi to meteor to poi at will, although going from poi to meteor would be slightly easier but a quick flick of the thumb and they'd be back to poi again.

i think they used one of those climbing carabeena (sp?) things on the end of one poi and a ring on the other.
like musashii i'd love to try a set
go for it - it certainly isn't that common that you're gonna run into lots of other people with a set like that.

I'm gonna have a go at making them sometime soon. I think I'll use some rope and monkey fist knots (If I ever get them right at some point!!) then it should be quite simple to join them together. I actually have a couple ideas now for the link, one involving loops and the other a short tube but I think the loops are winning at the mo

their called carribeaners (sp?) or a beaner for short (not caribeana lol.....u heard caribeana from a brit i suppose?), and you use them on your harness and for toprope climbing especially, and personally, id think that spinnin meteors w\ a beaner would be the dumbest thing you could do, if you get your fingers caught inside of the beaner while spinning, they will get broken......esp when you start using heavier wicks like cathedrals and most especially the monkies
there are a few really easy ways to go about this little dilema of yours
one : use boot lace to tie your poi handles together, and take the wicks off..there u go..meteor chain...have another set of chains ready and you can just switch off wicks
you can take the handles themselves off the chain..not really a big issue you just make sure you have a pair of pliars and you just take the handles off of your triangle shaped quicklinks, grab some shoe string..tie em together....there u go...but having more than one set of chains and wicks helps like no other......u dont wanna keep your audiance waiting for you to untie\retie and wait for your wicks to get a good soak so having more than one set is def. a good thing

Thanks darkpoet, I have no idea what crribeaners are but you have convinced me not to bother finding out!
I think you miss understand what i'm making. I'm not making Meteors, I already have Meteors, I'm making a type of connector so I can do all the poi moves and then click them together for Meteor and then click them apart for poi again. It should work if my thinkings right and the hoops I'm planning to use are very small so I shouldnt get my fingers caught in them.

But Poet, the reason I dont wanna use quick links is because the change from meteor to poi will be during the performance..infact during a move! Not while resting, unscrewing and then going again. I'm trying to aim for a smooth seamless transition between the two

I say go for the carabeeners heck you could even purpously stick you fingers in the ring and do the equivalent of a palm spin. You would have to be spinning sledge hammers at mac 10 before the center would be spinning fast enough to squish your fingers, even then you would likely get you knuckles scrapped not mortally wounded.
Idea at the end of your show stick like three fingers in the carabeener and let the wicks wrap arround your arm like a maypole.

I used a climbing caribeena, cuz I worked out a way of opening and closing it with one hand while twirling. Never got a broken finger from it tho...
havent done this in ages. The way I see it, if you want to do meteor, get a meteor and do it properly!

And I have poi and that's what made me think of combining the two for extra special ness!
I might give the caribeena's a try if you've had success then, I like the magnet idea although car speaker may be a little on the large side.
I've developed another idea into a work in progress now involving very short tube connectors the same width as the rope that click into each other and release with a little push on a flat button.
Keep it coming guys, I need the voice of experience. Oh and Josh I looked for your thread but haven't found it yet...but there's a lot to get through so I'll keep my eyes open!

The caribeena's work really well, because they attach so easily.
I got perfect sized ones for about 3 euros each as part of a key ring. I actually bought 2 cause he had not got split rings.....a cool accident really

Ok they are now made. I decided for ease of use and for simple construction sock poi were the best way to go so that's what I've done. Two socks each with the dog-chain style keyring on the end and spin tastic! Still getting used to them and they need some refinement with respect to the methods the keyrings are attached but I'm getting closer to nailing a hyperloop -> windmill -> butterfly but I gotta get used to flicking open the switches at exactly the right time which is proving a little tricky but these things are sent to try us and overcome them we shall!!

oh yeah and I forgot to mention that inside the socks are some of the rainbow glowy hacky sacks from here and they shine through the material quite well so look dead good at night...but for some reason don't appear at all on the camera on my phone!!?!!

ok, i think i know the perfect thing!

the solution! you know on rucksacs they have toggles to join the waist/chest straps, little plastic things that have a button either side to release? good loading, easy join/release, cheap and replaceable.

they can end up all crappy and loose over time, and just come apart when you pull hard enough. Got a sports bag thats had numerous interesting trips down flights of stairs because of that...
but they are easily replaceable so woo!
