eek Mahoosive congratulations Dunc! ubblove

Aren't you just Mr Fertile! ubblol wink

hug kiss

Damn right baby wink But once this one is cooked I've having the snip, 2's my limit!!

Thanks for the congrats and well wishes everyone hug kiss we really REALLY wanted to break the news at Bristol but the 12week scan wasn't until yesterday afternoon. We've had a few problems along the way so didn't want to tell folks we were expecting to then tell them it wasn't working properly, or worse. But the scan showed everything was completely normal and all the problems we had have now totally dissapeared! biggrin bounce

George is feeling fat already of course but to me it's just more beauty to love each day ubblove hug

We won't find out if this one is a boy or girl until it's out cuz they now charge £50 for the privilage of finding out. Even tho it's on the NHS using the machines we've paid for, in the hospital we've paid for, paying the rates and running costs that we pay, utilising staff whose wages we pay and would take place during the 20 week scan that they do without charge. It's rialed me more than paying the £2 parking fee at the hospital for a 20 minute appointment, it's worse than friggin London City Centre parking prices!

But, rant aside, I'm over the moon! ubbrollsmile

eek Surely you're kidding!?

Thats absolutely ridiculous!

Obviously I have no idea how these things work, but its not an actualy test or anything they have to do is it? I thought it was just a case of whoever did the scan looking at the screen and judging by that?

How the hell can they charge £50 for them to tell you?

Hmmm... I should probably stop ranting as I have absolutely no idea about babies and am probably completely wrong...ah well! rolleyes

Congrats anyway me lovely, so happy for all 3 of you! biggrin ubblove

nope, you got it exactly right Kelz, they charge £50 for something they can do during a normal scan, or as I prefer to rename it, the normal SCAM!!

I'm really angry about it, if they flat refused to tell parents I'd understand but this is just a rip to get more money out of tax payers.

Lets hope the midwives and nurses start a revolution and just tell people anyway.

you mean they won't even tell you their best guess from the scan?

i know that sometimes it can be really hard to tell just from a scan and so the scans can end up taking much more time than they really need to - i guess this could be a reason they're trying to scare people off asking?

i can understand them charging for the blood-based gender tests (as they aren't really necessary if you just want to know what colour paint to buy) but just saying "if you want to know, it'll cost ya £50" is well out of order mad

write to your trust and complain dude!

"yours sincerely, indignant dad" wink

Congratulations Dunc and George biggrin hug bounce

Apart from you not knowing, it makes it really difficult for relatives to give you nice little pink or blue babysuits! Maybe you could write to the baby clothes industry telling them how much money they miss out on, and they could put pressure on the NHS? wink

Seriously though I've heard about that before, it's ridiculous. Especially if they are doing more scans anyway, I thought they'd only do one

I think I will write to them Cole. The official blurb is

"The 20 week scan is an abnormality scan, establishing the gender of the unborn baby is not part of the abnormality scan. To establish the gender of the unborn baby you must return at 23 weeks for the gender scan. This scan will be to establish the gender ONLY and no other checks will take place. A free photo of the scan is included."

So basically it doesn't save any time as it takes a whole seperate scan to do it. Which means whole extra time to book, confirm, arrive and be directed, de-robed, jellied up, scanned, clean up, re dress, print picture and be escorted from the room/ward.

It's a scan scam. £50 in their pockets cuz they have no idea how to run hospitals efficiently while maintaining high levels of care so they may as well sneak even more cash from your pockets instead of making improvements in house to reduce overall running costs. Or that's how I see it anyway.

No Len that wasn't why we had our conversations, but I must admit seeing your beautiful little 10 day old did make me rather broody and all gooey about what I knew we had coming! ubblove biggrin

I can't believe that at Bristol next year we'll have a 2yo and a 6 month old! Or that at PLAY we'll have an almost2yo and a 4 month old! eek EEK! If someone had told me that would happen at Bristol 3 years ago I would have laughed in their face! Oh how times change eh.....and how they change for the better ubblove

If you really want to know about the efficiency of the NHS, I went to see a doctor in April 05 about my wrists (carpal tunnel syndrome) and I'm still waiting for the diagnosis ubblol

I've finally had the test done in May, so it's only taken them a year to do that, and another 4 months counting to let me know the result (thank God I did physiology at uni and know from the graphs it's just the carpal tunnel, and not my diabetes killing the nerves which is what the horrible "specialist" that gave me a whole 4 minutes of his time had said was a likely option).

If they get to that level of efficiency for BABIES they'll tell you if you're pregnant when the baby's 1 year old ubblol hug

Still the fact that they think giving you a FREE PHOTO with the 50 pound scan is generous is quite sad.
