i am putting this in the intros as a way to re-introduce myself as i felt my first time was a bit pants and i lost the thread and, well it was just a bad effort... anyway this is where i am going to keep those interested informed as to my travels for the next 6 months and where i get to spin, who i meet and what i get up to in general.

so firstly to do the whole intro thing again for those i do not have the pleasure of knowing yet...

hello! wave
i am...

eleanor.
age 23
from london. but currently travelling round australia having just zipped round japan, then in a few months onto new zealand, then fiji and then north america.
fave film - the lost boys
fave animal - penguin

oh blah blah that will do for now! biggrin biggrin biggrin

SO............... ubbloco

The Adventure began in Toyama, Japan. The snow was up to my knees and yes I have photographic evidence of me spinning poi in snow this deep which I will post here as soon as I get to a computer able to cope with this (in other words - as soon as I find anyone more capable of using a computer to do it for me ubblol)

I went to Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Tokyo following this, the most interesting things occuring being:

* getting lost absolutely every single day, usually for hours, but not really caring as it's a good way to see random back ends of cities.. ahem, that's my story and i will stick to it until the end... ubbangel

* making 'friends' in osaka with a japanese boy who followed me all round the zoo but got so annoyed at me for spending over 30 mins with the penguins, and still wouldn't leave me alone for ages even though we couldn't understand a word the other was saying.

* the weird weird tunes that the crossings play in kyoto when the green man (complete with top hat an pointy shoes, tee hee) comes on to tell you it is safe to cross. so bizarre.

* a ride called 'the 13 doors' at a theme park in tokyo which literally scared the [censored] out of me like nothing before. you get a key and have to wander round in the dark tripping over bodies on the ground, having things scream in your ear etc, and open doors with this key when you find them. urrrgh, such a freaky thing. even the 'kiddie' haunted house was enough to give me nightmares.

* going to see belle and sebastian in tokyo after sitting next to one of the band on the plane from london and making friends with them... this was fun and very strange, as going to shows in other countries often can be. guestlist place did mean front row seat of the balcony which was nice, and i hadn't anywhere to stay that night so a very nice american girl i met there let me share her (very nice) hotel room ubblove

the brain is tired so that is all i can think of for now.

NOW in mandurah, near perth, australia. it's SO warm. hurrah! biggrin had a quick spin in my friend's car park today and made a new friend who was fascinated by it which was cool. and going to stay with Gnor this weekend, cannot wait!!!! ubbrollsmile

that'll be all for now. i'll write again when there is more to tell, whenever that shall be. thanks to everyone who has sent me pms since i have left, it is so nice knowing you are still all out there to chat to. bye! hug kiss hug

well yesterday i met THE most exciting person... as some of you know and some of you don't, my ambition in life is to go to Antarctica, preferably to work but any method would do. so i met a guy that works there, and now i have all these contacts and new lease of hope that i may even get out there later this year for the whole summer season!!!!!!!!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin i can't quite describe how excited i am... even though it probably won't happen as it's so competitive and i'm not in the US at the right time for the job fairs, but there's a man in Montana i am going to visit and hopefully sweet-talk into giving me a job actually working with Adelie penguins ubblove

so that is my latest news. the lagoon yesterday was superb.

cape tribulation + daintree river tomorrow, yay! ubbrollsmile

wow, talk about luck, LOL!

Who knew going to australia you'd meet someone with contacts in antarctica who could advise you about what to do in the us, where you're going, to get to antarctica.

*reads that back a few times*

It's complicated, but that's why it's such good luck, I think. biggrin

Best of luck with that! Penguins are great. biggrin (I'm suddenly reminded of Paul Merton's diatribe on Have I Got News For You about penguins falling over when watching overflying planes and how they need to put foam on their backs so they bounce back up, but foam floats, so maybe springs... that was very odd).

Isn't is weird how you can fall in love with a place and not really understand why?

ubblove ubblove ubblove

The Treehouse at Mission Beach!!! Anybody else stayed there? Aaah, it was so good. Each night I found it impossible to go to bed as I was enjoying sitting round with everyone watching the world go round us so much... great venue for poi too, practiced all day down by the pool and did fire in the evenings for my biggest audience yet - about 40 people watching from the treehouse, so much fun. 3 of the staff even did a bit of poi so it was great to have someone else to spin with as i had been missing gnor incredible amounts!! ubbcrying

Anyway I just wanted to share my happiness at finding such a beautiful place with you guys. Even the huntsman spiders didn't put me off! eek Waking up and being able to watch the pink sunrise over the treetops of the rainforest without having to even move your head was just amazing......

I'm in Townsville now and have seen the Australian Idol play at a street festival, been on a shopping spree (oops) and finally cuddled a koala.. amongst other things. Heading off for my Whitsunday Islands trip soon, and then back up to the Treehouse as I left some things up there -- amazing people, my fave earrings, and a piece of my heart ubblove

The other cool thing about the treehouse was it taught me that I CAN just lie around and do nothing all day without feeling like I am wasting time! And it's really good to know that...... tongue

Time for another update I think.

So I ended up going back up to the Treehouse and basically backtracking my trip by 18 hours and $160 return, wah! But it was worth it, I worked for my accomodation up there for 2 weeks and just spent the time being the most relaxed I have ever been. Had loads of time for poi in the beautiful rainforest setting and apart from getting stuck in the cyclone up in Cairns when I went back there for the weekend, everything was great!

I did a Whitsunday Islands sailing trip which was - ok.. the people on the boat were cool but we didn't get to stop at the best islands due to bad weather (huh, Australian weather sucks as much as English weather when it feels like it mad)

Went four wheel driving on Fraser Island which was fantastic.. biggrin camped out for 2 nights with the dingoes, goannas, snakes and spiders... one thing I got from the treehouse is not to be scared of any bugs anymore at least. My first job each morning would be to remove all the beetles, praying mantises, cockroaches etc! Still not great with spiders but I am getting there. Anyway did loads of cool stuff like running down sand-dunes into water, floating down freshwater creeks and sunbathing on the most beautiful beach I have ever seen (on Lake Mckenzie). ubblove

Just had a fantastic 2 days with Valura, Arsn, Puk and the Pixies... ubbrollsmile ubblove ubbrollsmile
Those guys are all amazing.. I can't wait to see you all again soon.. oh Puk, just noticed you are sitting right next to me, darnit can't get rid of you! spank ubblol Anyways I will be back for Moonfest and hopefully Burleigh on sunday as I had so much fun there last night... I've seriously never spun with so many people or so many people watching before, what an experience. And it took a 9 year old to persuade me to come spin with her in the circle, hahaha! I am such a wuss ubblol ubblol

Went to Wet n Wild yesterday with aforementioned HOPers, had a blast.. went on some pretty scary rides in fact - my faves being the dark one with the mad lights and the one with the big boat which we nearly all went off the side on!!! Valura's face after that ride..... eek

Just changed my name, it was long overdue. Some mean person who I bet never posts had taken both Pengwyn and Penguin so Pengwino it is. Most of you who know me know about the penguin obsession so it seemed a logical choice. I bought a cuddly Emperor Penguin with a chick on it's feet yesterday, they are the most adorable penguins ever.
ubblove I named them Kristy and Troy ubblove

Onto Byron Bay tomorrow. Will write again soon.
