Now look, it says very clearly on the list of forums that this is the Temporary Discussion Area, but there are NO discussions about the nature of time. So i'm making one.

Time confuses me for several reasons
1. you can't poke it with a stick.
2. we all seem to be moving along it at the same speed but...
3. when i try to think about how 'fast' we are moving in time, without reference to time to determine speed, my brain stops working and starts thinking about iced buns instead.
4. did i say several reasons? um...
5. how small does time go till you get to an indivisible elementary particle of time, eh? eh?
6. if the answer to the last one is 'infinitely small' then what sense does 'now' make, eh? eh?
7. is the future already there, or does it get made as it happens?

um yeah.

So anyone want to give me some of their time?
(go on Dom, i've forgotten how your theory that time doesn't exist actually went )

and finally, to fit in with the rest of this Forum, i'd like to blame the USA for its abuse of time and general temporal irresponsibility

actually, because

T = L(4.75x - g)

where x is the number of hours worked by CEO's in America, L is lightsabres per officially religious jedi in england, and g is gold it can be conclusively proved that

T = $

or put more simply, time is money.

if i had more time i would elaborate on the proof so that all could understand. unfortunately i don't.

but if you press me then maybe later i will.

i think youll find

therfore T = w/$ x T

tom - your equations need some brackets dude.
although, even with brackets they simplify to either $=1 or $=w - which from your T=w gives you the original postulate of T=$.

i can prove girls are evil though...

define: G=Girls, T=Time, $=Money, E=Evil, square root=[root]

first state girls require money: G=Tx$

and using bluecat (and inadvertantly your) equation that 'time is money': T=$

therefore: G=$x$ --> G=$^2

recall that 'money is the root of all evil': $=[root]E

therefore: G=([root]E)^2

and we can conclude that: G=E --> Girls=Evil

i have some new (to me) ideas about time that i came to recently.
it all sorta stems from the philosophy of the qabalists - they say that time is one of the 10 basic ideas that form the 'universe' (i use quotes on universe as it is the microcosmic as well as the macrocosmic universe being referred to here ie. what is happening and how we percieve it).
i would go on but i'm tired and you're probably bored already, besides the fact that the other copy of this thread is a lot less random and probably a better place to ramble on about the anthropic principle as applied to time...

Mr Coleman,

whay dont you take your fine mathematical brain and... and.... work out how many four wrap combinations there are with four limbs assuming that each hand can wrap from the front on its own side twice, and on the other side wraps twce from the front and twice from the back, so I can put "X wraps listed" on my thread?

Temporarily on the topic of time, as we (betimes) find ourselves: here's a chronic query: have any of you read the book Pip Pip? Unfortunately I've forgotten the author, but it is many manic pages devoted to time. Very well written and wild... worth a read, if, er, you get the time.

does anyone know where the other version of this thread is...?

it got split into two somewhere on the first page and the subsequent pair of threads were subjected to a phenotype identification type experiment.

this one went a bit mad and random.

the other one become very confusing to think about (as well it should given the topic).

i'd like to visit the sibling of this thread but am at a loss as to its current whereabouts confused

only a timemonkey can ease my plight now...

sentences with no identifiable subject are hard to interpret.

but to answer your question; that is relevent because of this.

In this case; time being an illusion.

This assertion contains an implicit assumption that there is a continuity of events, which in turn presupposes the existence of time. Which is the exact thing that i wasn't really disagreeing with.

and i told you already, illusions are when you throw your stick in the air and do a pirouette with vertical splits, drawing a circle around your body with your foot.

Therefore you are. Well, in actuality, it has been proposed that the entire universe is a figment of your imagination, in which case you wouldn't really exist, in spite of the fact that you think.

Of course, that leaves the rather sticky question of what exactly is doing the thinking if you don't exist.

Personally, I think with my arse. No, wait...I speak out of my arse. I think with my *censored*. umm

exactly how long is a jiffy? (not the condoms before anyone says it wink)

and how are people able to stretch minutes, moments and seconds out indefinatley when the say they'll do something in one?

and is all night on the phone for glastonbury tickets reading threads such as these time well spent?

I think it has to do with relativistic effects. According to Einstein's Theory of Relativity, as you move more quickly, an outside observer will observe that time has slowed for you.

Therefore, the faster you work, the longer it will take for you to complete a task! Q.E.D.
