that's a good way to start, but I like to do it a little diffirently, I let the staff spin another 1/4 turn and catch it one hand below the other thumbs on both hands upward. I hope that makes sense...... If you froze with both hands on the staff in the middle of the pass the staff would be straight up and down parallel with your spine, and you would be gripping it with your hands in a position kind of like holding a sword or baseball bat.
