Here's an idea to maybe stop all the spam of repetitive posts. Well i remember going to another msg board and they had this section called "Archived Posts - "mad knowlege"". Basically what it was, the best thread about a frequently asked question was moved there. So in this section would be the best thread about sparkly poi, how to make colored flames, how to do a btb weave, whats better fire or glow etc etc. These threads were locked so no one could add things either, this may or may not apply here. The reason why i think people keep asking the same questions are because the people asking are new to the board and don't know how to use the search function. It's easier just to click on a link. I remember when i firsts signed up i was going to ask a question about sparkly poi, luckly someone asked before me and he just got yelled at.my 2 cents.------------------[]Dhuong-Vu Truong==== []Dhunky ====

But it explains everything clear and simple when you click on Post new Topic, is it too hard to read that and actually follow the instructions????New or not, im sure people can read (obviously), maybe Malcolm should go back to the yellow it originally was if its not grabbing people's attention. The repetitiveness of questions asked on this board really does get quite boring, and im sure the mods are well over telling people to do a search....simple

LOL, i didn't even see that.See, if i scim through it, the majority of people probably do also.Another thing, how do new members know if they are posting a repetitive question in the first place?------------------[]Dhuong-Vu Truong==== []Dhunky ====

Well if you do a search and you find it....then its repetitive, if you do a search and cannot find it, then chances are it hasnt been mentioned before.....When Malcolm first put the instructions up they were bright yellow to get peoples attention, if you read them, they give you instructions one how to search.

Chances are, new people won't do a search. I'm sure they would check out every section though.Just have the new section say something like...Archived Posts "This forum is dedicated to all those great messages of the past. Much knowledge and ideas can be found here" ------------------[]Dhuong-Vu Truong==== []Dhunky ====

And if theyre not searching the ordinary forums, why would they search the archive forums, seems to me if they cant read the lines at the top of that page when posting a topic, they wont pick up to search an archive forum....

whatsmore, we have a section called the FAQ... there is plenty of stuff in there at the moment, yet still incomplete...when these are completed all the major topics will be thoroughly covered by good authorities.

You guys whinge and moan on a daily basis about how annoyed you are at this problem...yet when someone tries to come up with a solution, u refuse to get off your high horse. Obviously the problem is an annoying one but if everytime someone tries to help, you just dismiss their ideas, then IMHO you deserve to be annoyed!

So what about the solution that is already present? What about the FAQ section which is pretty much what phunky was talking about.Beyond that its just sheer ignorance that people continue to be a pain in the arse it would seem------------------Frenzie - Industrial design knows of no article more useful than the milk crate -https://wickeffect.cjb.net**Updates to page coming shortly**

::beats horse into a gallop::I think phunky's idea is great, but that's what we're aiming the FAQ and articles to be. Besides, we have procedures already in place that aren't being followed. Do you really think that people would go to archived files if they can't manage a simple search.::jumps log::while my steed is steady, I'll ask you why hide under false identity?? show yourself, scurvy knave!

From going there I cant see any advantage of that, if i were to go into the forum at the top and not read the following forums, and click on post new topic, as people do here, it would have the same outcome. Its just a matter of becoming aware of what options are available, i mean usually when i go to a new site or board ill hit the FAQ first to see rules and stuff.Maybe what you mean phunky is add the FAQ as a forum?

If you want people to search and visit the FAQ section before posting a new post ... I think that there needs to be a "Search" and "FAQ" button right along beside the "Post New Topic" button. The post new topic button is just sitting out there all by itself with some little words underneath ... you can't blame people for wanting to click it.So yeah ... "Post New Topic", "Search" and "FAQ" buttons all lined up and all the same size. That might help with our little problem.Ðraevon.

I said it before and I'll say it again. I was 100% pro-yellow box. Also, we could get a bit more strict and say that you need to register to post. I don't know that this will cut down the present newbie ignorance (in the true sense of the word: meaning lack of knowledge, not stupidity.) I don't like those anonomous posts that pop up, flame and then fade away. Even if someone wants to register with a level of anonymity, it's preferable to me than having random passers-by post and run. If we did make everyone register, we could then use the registration form to hammer home the frustrations we've been having. And, because you only have to register once, we could have that be yellow... smileJust a thought, it's all sparkly poi to me. wink

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

Respect that not everyone will have the same opinion as you.
becaue i think im going to enter a taboo zonenew people to the board enter new posts that have been discussed over and over. That is a given. People do it because they want personalized responseS. I myself dont like to search old posts looking for information. Im lucky because im on here enough that i get to read all the new posts, and most of my early questions were asnwered before this "war on the repetitve posts" started. If you are constantly searching old posts, you dont get to know anyone, and they dont get to know you. I find it a thrill when i post something and i come back to it the next day and see 10 responses. Reading old posts has the same feeling as reading an old newspaper. Whats the fun in that?Honestly, i have never been on a board that has had so many "rules". "this post is being moved to the such and such forum""This post is not topic related"I think general discussion should be just that...general. Everything else is covered. Moves & technical forums i think are enough to cover all POI topics. Its like being a member at a Golf course Club and being told that all non-golf discussions is not allowed. I dont come here just for the POI information anymore, i come here to interact with others. Id be in the damn CHAT room all the time if anyone was ever in there. All other boards i have been on have had sections to where you can just talk about whatever. If its related, great, if not, great. Point is i would like to talk to others, that have my interests, and people that i have grown to know and consider friends, about non-poi related topics, without having to send them and email individually. That way we all can enjoy something together as a group. I think i speak for many people here that we are in a way, a family. BUT i have respected the guidelines of this board and tried to keep all my posts topic related. I even stopped posting the occasional joke. thats just my .02 centsI agree that some "basic" questions are asked too often. "How do you do a butterfly, what is a wick? How old is everone?" And i think having a frequently asked question section is good.but im sure that people post them anyway because they want to be seen and have someone interact with them. Thats all. Im just giving an explination of why i think they post questions over and over.I guess what im saying is, you have already listed guidelines, and the amount of time it takes to post "if you would just do a search for such and such topic you will find other posts that relate to your question..yadda yadda yadda.." you probably could have answered whatever they had a question about.either that or email them a virus... grinSuper' ------------------"When a Man Lies He Murders Some Part of the World These Are the PaleDeaths Which Men Miscall Their Lives All this I Cannot Bear to Witness Any Longer Cannot the Kingdom of Salvation Take Me Home"[This message has been edited by Superman (edited 20 September 2001).]

I think i agree with NYC on this one.Maybe its a bit extreme and maybe its all unnecessary...I like personalised responses too, so when i search on what im looking for and it doesnt answer my question exactly, i just reply to that post and bring it to the top again ....

Now...I'm going to get myself into more trouble than Superman...I agree with the rules for several reasons, the biggest one is that Malcolm runs this site, to my knowledge he started it. As well as the fact that it is part of his business. He deserves the right to demand anything of a reasonable nature (which he very seldom does) merely from those points alone.Second, I do find other BB frustrating in that half of them are full of personal talks that exclude other surfers, sometimes even becoming anti-newcomers. If this is why that BB was setup in the first place, thats fine.I think this BB was setup to enhance poi and firearts and it doing the best job of any BB with a centralised topic I've ever been on.But comparing this site to others isn't the way it works, as with any domain, if we don't like the rules, we don't have to visit.Whinging can be annoying, but I feel healthy social venting is good for the soul...So keep Whinging, keep the rules, and kudos to everyone who likes a fix-it solution everytime someone whinges.Peace to all, (even Superman) wink------------------Charles (INFERNO)newdolbel@hotmail.comhttps://juggling.co.nz
