Monday 18th July



Woke up and took the kids to school/nursery, then got a lift to the station from Tamsyn and made my way back to Fal. Brad came over about 5ish and we made our way to Eden, stopping on the way to pick up Rheannon, Kelly and Hava. Got there and got showed around the place, filled in a bunch of forms so we could get paid and whatnot, then wandered down to the stage area to get made up.



We span up the top of the quarry, on one of the paths. It was good fun, although I learned an important lesson about spinning fire whilst wearing a grass skirt.



Headed home once we were done, and got back around half 11. Lazed about and watched TV a bit, then went to bed.



Tuesday 19th July - Wednesday 20th July



Woke up mid afternoon ish, got painted by Pixie (as she's better at it than me) and drove to Eden with the guys. We were moved from the path area down onto the area in front of the stage, which is good as it means we're nearer to the audience. The crowd is generally made up of families with small kids, so we get a lot of "Mummy, why isn't that man burning himself?" and things like that. Kids make a good audience.



Other than sleeping, being painted and working, I did very little on these two days. I made a couple of phone calls to confirm the wood delivery for Fal4, and to the campsite for the same reason, and almost nothing else.



Cameron turned up Wednesday night (ain't it just like the Irish to arrive early and leave early? ) and we drank cider and ate scrambled eggs.

Thursday 21st July



Woke up about middayish and bimbled about getting my stuff together. Once that was done, Pixie and I painted me red, and Cameron and I got a taxi out to the campsite. Several poiple were there already, and I managed to transfer a lot of bodypaint from myself onto UCOF.



Wandered around greeting people and giving bad directions to people, and waiting for the man to deliver the wood. About half 9 it started getting desperate, as the sun was setting and it was getting colder, so I rang a different firewood supplier and arranged for him to meet us at the beach.



Arriving at the beach, we were intrigued to find both firewood gys waiting there with trucks full of wood. I quickly paid them both and got them to drop it all on the beach. In hindsight, not the best idea I've ever had.



UCOF got on the case getting the fire lit, and in no time we had a nice little gathering around it. Entertainment came from several people playing with fire, and a great evening was had by all. A couple of coppers turned up shortly after midnight as there had been a complaint about noise, so I assured them we'd stop the drums and they seemed content enough to leave us to it. About 4ish I left a few people guarding the fire and headed back to the campsite, just in time to greet Cole, BamBam and HellzBellz, who had just arrived, having pulled an all nighter from the Smoke. I then retired to the tent to sleep.



Friday 22nd July



Woke up at precisely half ten, sweating and gasping for breath. Threw myself out of the hell-tent, and lay panting on the grass in the hot hot sun. I'd estimate that several people woke up around the same time form the amount of folks lying about in exactly the same way. It transpired that the owner of the beach cafe had turned up in the early morning, found a few sleeping HoPpers on the beach (you know who you are, Andy ) and the big pile of firewood, and gone a bit nuts. Thankfully a crew of helpful spinners had transported it all back to the site (much thanks to all involved, speshly Jake), but it meant that we had no idea whether we would be able to return to Maenporth that evening.



Spying a police car pulling up the driveway of the farmhouse, Bluecat and I trotted over to say hello, and had a chat with both the police and the ladies at the campsite, and reassured them that A) we weren't setting up for a rave, and B) that we'd get permission from the guy at the beach cafe before going on Maenporth again. I also gave the rozzers my address, which made me a little paranoid. I'm sure they have my address anyway.



That done, we pottered about a bit, then headed to the beach for some spinning fun in the sun. I managed to fall over about ten times in a row attempting to learn the "Jesus", (which I still can't do consistently!) and whacked myself in the ear repeatedly.



About 3ish, BamBam, Hellz, Vixen and I walked over to have a chat with Carl, the owner of the beach cafe, to try and talk him into letting us utilise the beach again. Unfortunately, due to them having lots of problems with little kids having parties on the beach, they now do not allow any bonfires on the beach at all. Carl wasn't unpleasant, he even phoned a nearby farmer to see if we could use his land, but he wasn't available. Carl then suggested we try Nansidwell Beach, the next one along. There shouldn't be any problems with us having a fire there, he said, as "they even allow dogs on that beach!"



Feeling in need of a mission, BamBam, UCOF, Vix, Hellz and I jumped in the car and missioned it up the road to find the beach. We parked by this sign here (recognise it everyone?) and then walked the 2 and a half miles down to the beach. Despite the trek to get there, we decided that it was as good a place for us as any. We then chose to walk back to the beach along the clifftop path, instead of going back to the car. It was a nice stroll, and I'm glad we did it in daylight, as it helped no end when I had to lead people back along it in the dark.



Back at the beach, we packed up our stuff and returned to the campsite to get ready for the evening. Managed to blag people to get me some bread and cheese from ASDA, and had a bit of a munch, then loaded up Jake's car with wood, and drove over to the start of the path to the beach. UCOF and I started carrying the wood down to the beach, and Jake returned to start the mass exodus.



Slowly but surely, everyone got delivered to the beach, and once I'd calmed down the occupants of the house next to the "Woodlands" sign (who threatened to call the police if we caused any trouble) we managed to get everyone, and the wood, down the path and set up. I hung around outside that blasted sign for about 2 and a half hours, repeating my little speech about the need to be extremely quiet or risk the wrath of the Rozzers.



By the time i got down to the beach, accompanied by the lovely Miss Fluff, the excitement was already in full swing. As well as some amazing displays of spinning from all concerned, we were also treated to the sight of fireworks being strapped to staves and spun around by Julien (Imakokode) and his little gang of Parisian spinners. The atmosphere was fantastic, despite the rain rolling in about midnight, and much fun was had by all. Apart from my guitar string, which decided that it'd had quite enough depressing twaddle from me, and decided to snap itself for the benefit of all concerned.



Eventually poiple began to drift off, and so around 2ish I led a procession of people, including CrazyHippyChick, RosscoBossco and the French guys, back along the cliff path by staff-light towards the campsite.



Once back I retreated to Hellz' tent with her, BamBam, Cole and Strugz, and had a smoke with them before crawling into my tent and happily passing out.

Saturday 23rd July

Woke up around midday. Thankfully, after the heat of the day before, it was raining, so I managed to actually get a half decent nights sleep. Once I woke up, of course, I wasn't so chuffed about the rain, but meh, what can ya do eh?

What I did was to tramp about the campsite nicking cups of tea and coffee from all and sundry. Oh yeah, and breakfast from Gayle.

I was then seduced by the dark side. I learned to hula hoop. Many many thanks to all that helped me learn, especially Fluff and Judith (Kali). Having got the hang of the hip thing, i proceeded to try and do contact staff at the same time. Waist wraps worked, as did neck rolls, and I even managed to do a steve whilst hooping. The possibilities are mind boggling!

For me, Fal4 for was all about combinations. We witnessed:

Staff and fireworks
Staff and hoop
Poi and hoop
Poi and staff (nice one Cantus )
Clubs and diabolo
Staff and fans
Staff and fire hands

There may have been other combinations that I missed, or have forgotten, but those were the ones that stick in my mind the most. Truly hilarious at times, but mightily inspiring none the less.

As the rain was showing no sign of abating, we decided it would be easier if we could convince the campsite owners to let us have a fire on the site itself, rather than repeat the trek to the beach in the downpour. Clare and I (I think it was you, wasn't it?) walked to the farmhouse, and happily the ladies agreed that we could go ahead with our plan.

Once again, King UCOF swung into gear as Scoutmaster/fire builder and by sundown we were once again gathered around a lovely bonfire. The rain really didn't let up at all, so it was a rather damp affair, but after some extensive cajoling I managed to persuade/embarrass people into having a mass burn. Frankly, I got a bit p*ssed off at having to persuade people at all, as I'd been under the impression that they'd come to Fal to spin fire. Maybe I misunderstood the purpose of the weekend...

Still, as is often the case at Falmouth gatherings, once everyone was burning, they kept burning. The field was full of steaming spinners, and the atmosphere was electric.

After many many burns, and some lovely little grooves with various people, I flopped down by the fire to skin up. It was around this point that Brad announced his intention to drive home (with Nate, for some reason) and I mentioned it in passing to Fluff. Her exact words were: "I need to sleep in a house", so we jumped in the car and got a lift to my house.

Ooh, the guilt. I spent most of the night thinking how bad I was for running off and abandoning everyone to the weather. Still, what can you do eh? All my clothes were wet, and it sucked, so I went home for a shower. Then spent most of the night chatting and watching spinning videos with the Fluffster before falling asleep.

Sunday 24th July

Woke up mid morning and drank tea with Fluff whilst watching more random spinning vids on my comp. Rang Bluecat to come pick us up, and then for some reason got a lift back to the campsite with Brad. Silly.

Got back to Tregedna Farm in time to take part in some more spinning-type fun. UCOF had managed to keep the fire burning all night, so there was no problems with lighting the thing in the rain.

Kept working on the contact staff/hula hoop thing, with very little results. Hid under the Uber-teachers tarp for a bit while the rain persisted, then snuck back outside to play some more. Having been instructed to learn doubles by Strugz, I grabbed him and Meg and forced them to teach me. Learned some basic stuff, but enough for me to be going on with for now.

After being told that I wasn't good enough to teach someone the matrix, (or maybe she wasn't good enough to learn it, I'm not sure) I retreated to Strugz' van for some Ping! and to mutter furiously under my breath. Once nicely relaxed, I kept bimbling about and randomly playing with things til the sun went down, and the firey fun began once again.

Everything went swimmingly for the final night, some fantastic displays as usual from all concerned, and the only bit of minor stress arrived in the form of 3 police cars about 2.30am. Having witnessed Polarity's naked hooping, the assembled group of HoPpers could barely contain their whoops of amusement, and the ladies at the farmhouse (rather than come over and tell us off) had decided to ring the cops. The police didn't seem particularly bothered by us, by the time they'd arrived most people had hit their tents anyway, and they must have been most unimpressed, turning up mob handed to face 20 damp looking spinners huddling round a campfire. I explained that the noise was now over, and they seemed happy enough to drive off, probably back to the station for a nice cup of tea.

I headed for my tent only to find it occupied by a crazy blonde Texan (you know who you are ) and so bedded down in Skully's tent, as she wasn't in it.

Hehehe. Thanks Mr Bov, I'd forgotten about that. It's not actually the best way to learn to hoop, as you need to swing your hips around, not just back and forth. Best to imagine there's 3 people in front of you, and you're going to teabag the lot of them in one fluid movement...

Oh boy, where do I start? Ok, it's been two weeks since Fal4 ended, and to be honest, the only times i've been near a computer I haven't had the time to post, so a lot of the last fortnight has been consigned to history, and the rusty collander that is my memory. Sorry about that...



Essentially, once the clean up operation had finished at the campsite, and everyone had been hugged goodbye, that was the end of Fal4. I got a lift back to my house with the ever-lovely Mr Bird, and tried to make some sense of the pile of soggy things I'd brought back with me. Despite being fiendishly tired, I forced myself into the shower, where I lay, semi-comatose, for about an hour. Then I presented myself to Pixie to be painted, yet again. I'm like Michael Jackson me. In that I like to be a different colour to normal, not that I have a child complex.





Went to work at Eden. We're spinning right in front of the big stage, and every night we get a really good sized crowd. They loves it. I think we must be advertised somewhere, as people always come up to us early and ask when we're starting. Hope all the attention doesn't go to our heads!



Other than that, I didn't really do much the rest of the week, then on Saturday I blagged Brad to drive me to Launceston to see the kids.
