Posted: Well, I did it. After nearly two months of thinking about it, I finally did it.Born from the idea of Pele's Jacob's Ladder at the ECSF comes... after two days of construction ... Uberpoi!Uberpoi is 50 inches (1.3 meter) long contains FOUR poi heads. 18 feet of heavy wick were used in it's creation. I don't know how much it weighs, but let me tell you I am glad I used cable and aluminium hardware! Each of the wicks is separated by a distance of six inches. The outside wicks contain more kevlar than the inside ones. Unfortunately, I did not quite get the math right, and the outer wicks still burn out first. But, I still get at least a five minute burn time before the first wick goes out. I expect this to get better as the wick wears in.Neither of my two spotters felt up to to the challenge, so I cannot say personally how cool they look. As to how they feel, all I have to say is that I need to get to the gym more. But reports are they are pretty freakin' cool.Once Prote hears, I'm sure she will want to see the finished product, and hopefully I can convince her to take pics. Maybe we can even get pics of her spinning it. ;-)Oh, and one word of warning. Do not attempt to use Uberpoi while altered. Not your first time out, anyways. I don't care how experienced you are. Trust me on this one. mmmmmmmm-kay?-p.

Posted: pj...congrats on making your own set.I tiered the wicks on the jacob's ladder as I had discussed with ya'll, right after I got home in fact from the ecsp...and they burn about right now...the biggest one at the bottom is in no danger of going out first since it is soooo big.Anyway...it sounds like you used my specs exactly though. My wicks are set 6 inches apart and the chains are 50 inches (I still like chains to cables). So I am curious, what did you change for the jl?We have a video of the jl that once edited down I am going to be sending to Malcolm.I can't wait to see the pics of yours. ------------------Pele Higher, higher burning fire...making music like a choir...

Posted: Well, the biggest difference between Uberpoi and your Jacob's Ladder is that I made a *pair* of them. ;-) Oh, and there is a clip on the bottom of each poi for an additional head. Or, you could clip the two of them together. But I'm just not ready to go there yet...-p.

Posted: Accually, i did pretty much the same thing. I made myself a pair of something that probably resembles pele's jacob's ladder (it sounded cool, had to try it ) They *are ridiculously heavy, tho mine are a little shorter than what you're talking about. I've recently been using one of them stretched out (since i double them over and then attatch my wicks in between) as the meteor i've been playin with recently. Posted: Welp, Prote invited me and a few other fire folk over to her place for dinner, merryment and fire. After a most yummy meal, and an even yummier desert, we got out Prote's way-cool digital camera and set up for fire in the back yard.I dove right in with the Uberpoi, and of course both Banz and Prote had to follow. Another friend Moke who start started practicing about six weeks ago, and did fire three weeks ago, even tried his hand. Vees did most of the camera work, but we passed it all arround. In any case, here are some links to the pics we took this evening. Be warned that the full-size pics are directly as they came from the camera.at 1600x1200 resolution and are HUGE. But at least, we do have a thumbnail index to let you see what we've got.https://www.calefaction.org/photos/peter/https://www.calefaction.org/photos/moke/https://www.calefaction.org/photos/banz/https://www.calefaction.org/photos/prote/Enjoy!-p.

Oh, and yeah, just getting all eight wicks lit is no small task. ;-)-p.
