What I like about the looks of the Luxotica brand is that there is a whole lot less exposed metal touching the Kevlar. The HoP brand kind of scares me, with that big bean-can looking thing.

The oval link is more secure than ballchain, but I would much prefer quicklinks over the split-rings you see in the Lux model. Its too bad neither offers twisted oval link chains.

Each one has a give and take, so go with your instincts. My preference would be for the Luxotica snakes.

PS: why would one get a blue flame over another? Doesn't that just happen as your burn starts losing fuel?

Yeah, the biggest problem of snakes
as well as other rope like toys
is that their fire goes out too quickly if you start raising speed

the flame sorta goes out creating a blue effect like at the end of a burn with other toys.

So I guess that rules those ones out...

...or does it...?

Lots of confusion about this.. IMHO, its the same thing that happens when you open the airhole on the bunsen burner - more oxygen gets in, the flame turns blue. So I reckon that you can turn any flaming object blue, if you move it quick enough (and provided that t he flame doesnt go out), and you can make any fire toy not go blue, by spinning slower smile
Im more than happy to be explained why Im wrong though, if I am, and if anyone actually knows rather than reckons.

(sorry if my earlier posts seemed a bit rude, they wernt meant to but on re-reading them, I see that theey could have been read that way smile )

Technically, you guys are both right. wink

Flames go blue when they're burning up all the fuel and leaving no soot (it's soot that makes flames turn yellow). There are two ways to get a flame to burn up all it's fuel. Either feed it loads of oxygen like in a bunsen burner, or give it less fuel, like on a firetoy that's burned off most of it's fuel.

Me, I like the look of these... A pair of helix chains with monkeyfist heads would probably win against most of the snakes out there... biggrin

I was looking at those bearclaw ones but they confused the heck out of me lol. Tell me if im right... The "Helix Length" is the length of the wick and then "Length" is the Total Length of the Whole poi?

YaY!!! I got them in today and as i said in my last post i can't burn them till feb but just dry they are freaking sweet!

The monkey fists are huge and are great for hyperloops.

I like the wight on them...not light at all but they are not that heavy.

The handles i love cuz you don't have to worry about them flying off or anything. They stay really tight on your fingers.

10/10 for sure!! biggrin

Kinda sucks... Though I can see why they'd stop you.
Hey, on the bright side, you'll be well practiced with them by the time you're able to light them up! biggrin

To be honest I have both snake poi and triple headed poi, I find the triple headed ones rather annoying because they are so much heavier, but definately not more scary. Something about snakes that worries me every time I light them up, maybe it was because I lit my back on fire biggrin

Looks to me like the luxotica wicks are definitely a better design, but I don't trust the hardware. Split rings make me nervous. HoP doesn't always have the best designs out there, but I'd always trust the quality of the hardware.

I wouldn't get either, but that's because I'm a hardcore DIY kid. Although the luxotica ones are a pretty cool design, I might want to get a pair just to see how they're put together.
