ok well hopefully the obscure title managed to capture your attention!

The basic answer is for me is Scouts!

I am a Scout leader, as well as having bene through all the younger sections, and I got into poi and staff and diablo through circus skills events at scout camps.

I was wondering if there are any other scouts about? and if so if they are seeing the big surge in poi as a skill of interest in the movement where they are!?

PS the water and fire links are related to the fact I am a sea scout and a water baby as well as the standard scout affiliation and obsession with fire smile

I was Cub Leader and Group Leader of NZ's biggest Scout Group. I "lived" for campfire where I could be as idiotic as I liked and it was all part of the fun! biggrin
But my best campfire memory is from one ANZAC eve camp we held and followed it with the parades the next day (and inadvertantly launched the ANZAC parades held in our town!).

I have several large jars of the stuff. I actually like it... a little. And don't tell anyone I admitted to it.

i finished ventures two years ago. at our annual regatta(water) wink we were allowed to spin fire every year, everyone loved it smile

actually i got into twirling from other people in my group. i'd allready been juggling for a few years and we used to have nights when we'd play around with tennisball poi and broomsticks smile

I was never a scout, girls weren't allowed when I was young! I had to be a brownie instead, I hated it!

My boyfriend's mum looks after a whole bunch of cubs and beavers though. It sounds like fun. Except last autumn they banned the kids from playing conkers, in case of health and safety issues.

Yeah red tape truly does suck - it is killing the movement slowly but hey ho we replace conkers with poi and turn it from a dangerous unsuprvised activity to a supervised skills activity and all is well!! smile

though hopefully with less contact!
