Well, hello everyone! wave

I'm Lukas, I live in Bern, Switzerland. Obviously english isn't my native language, so please bear with me... wink I started spinning about a month ago, when a good friend of mine brought his fire poi to a cottage where we spent a weekend fooling around with them. There I got addicted instantly, even though I just could do a figure 8 forwards and backwards.. biggrin

Back home I just had to continue, but had no poi, so I made myself a pair out of string and tea lights (tea candles?). Well... As you can imagine, those really hurt when you whack yourself, even in not so delicate places, but on the up side, they offer a great deal of control and precision. And they definitely give you instant feedback when you do things wrong. biggrin

After a while I decided to stop torturing myself (reverse weave... Ouch!ubbloco) and got me some soft comet poi and a set of fire poi. I'm just amazed how much progress you can make, everytime you spin you pick up something new, and you never forget the stuff you've already learned. So far I cracked (in this order) the weave (forwards, reverse, turns (360°)), chasing the sun, low and high turn, windmill, and some other stuff.

Surprisingly I found the weave very easy to learn, it just clicked some day, whereas I'm still having trouble with doing the butterfly properly, which many people find much easier to learn.

Well, that's about it, here comes the survery. biggrin

Hello and welcome to HoP

I think your english is incredibly good. The butterfly was my first move, but took me about a week to master, as firstly I had to work out in my head where the poi were going as it didn't seem logical. Sometimes that helps for moves to click.

Good luck with spinning and hope to see some videos of you spinning on here sometime!

Hi Lukas, welcome to HoP!

Is Bern still the beautiful city it was when I was there a decade ago?

wave weavesmiley

My state of mind is not yours to define!

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! rolleyes

@FireTom

Ja, "wir" scheinen wenige zu sein. Jetzt kommt ja (ein bisschen) Verstärkung wink

Marmite - oder - Nutella

Definitely Nutella! Because I haven't (knowingly) tried Marmite yet. wink Maybe I should. It's just, as much as I love the UK, when it comes to food I'm still a bit suspicous... biggrin Continental breakfast for me rolleyes

@buggleberry_fairy

It's not so much that I couldn't do the butterfly at all. More that I do it slightly different every time, and haven't found out yet which motions are important for it to work. But more on that in a seperate thread I think. smile ([Old link] )

As for the videos: Maybe soon, but I couldn't get my hands on a camera yet. But photos will come soon I guess. smile

@Bird

At least I think so smile I actually moved here a couple years ago, because I liked Bern so much better than Zürich, close to which I grew up. It's less hasty and more open-minded than other places in Switzerland, I think. And it's still one of those cities where nature is close.
