Well, for starters, there is another way to pronouncing sch- or g-. One without sounding like cat that goes berserk or sounding like you're about to spit into your conversation partners eye. devil

I can handle the spit, it's just the sound of it that drives me crazy.
It didn't stop me from having some Dutch girlfriends though. devil biggrin
In fact, the way Dutch girls abuse their language is kinda sexy...

I've never had a Dutch girlfriend.
Or boyfriend.
Hmmmmm... maybe it's because I don't get the subtleties of the language abuse? In German, yous all sound like Rudi Carell and Linda de Mol ubblol

(or maybe it's because I'm a bit of an anglophile at heart...)

Do I have to defend the Dutch ones now? Oh great.
O.k., ... hm ... I love the Dutch language, because ...
the grammar is nice. Very easy. It is more like: just do whatever you want to do and don't bother about the rest. (This pretty much goes with the lifestyle here).

About German: it is nice because you can tell the words apart (in contrast to French). But the grammar is definitely too complicated and all those spelling reforms definitely messed up my mind

I never had to learn German grammar... if I'd had to, I'd hate it! But to OUR defence, it's easier than Finnish!

And I'm not too bothered about the spelling reforms... apparently there's a Windows update though so you can auto-correct them.

now slow down, little miss.
I'm a native German speaker, I just left the country last december and already lost track of all those mad2 grammar changes (windows is not the ideal alternative to some grammar lectures).

And about Finnish and German: well, I guess this depends on what your native tongue is and which languages you already speak. (I'll spare you elaborations on the morphological structure of languages)

unless you speak Hungarian or Turkish, Finnish wins on the difficulty scale smile

Not sure about Estonian, might be quite similar but I've never bothered to read up on it!

Now I should really go and tidy my flat, but the computer's so much more fun frown

Estonian seems to be a bit like a mixture of Finnish and Russian ... and yes, I should still write some stuff, too ... actually, it's not only "should", it's more like "have to" ... hmmm
