Thanks Pete smile

Guys, I have a question and I need some help...

Right, this is a long story, so I hope you are sitting comfortably...

I went to Peru on my elective this August/September, and as many of you know, there was a MASSIVE earthquake there around the same time. I went with a friend of mine to Ica and Pisco (where most if the damage was concentrated: https://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/6952421.stm) to help the people there by buying and taking food there, as well as doing some basic medical checks on the kids and the elderly. I digress. My main point is that we also bought and distributed some toys there; mainly footballs and, it being me, LOTS of hoops!

Now, even though everyone was obviously grateful for the food, it was AMAZING to see just how happy the kids (and their parents in many cases) were when we gave them a ball or a hoop to play with. They were so happy! It was awesome, really wonderful. Plus, the toys were so cheap out there that I managed (after a good deal of bartering i must admit) to get 20 hoops for 25 soles, which is around £4! (£8).

So, my point: I was thinking about sending some money out there this christmas so my friend can get more toys and give them to the kids out there. No overhead costs, cool. But then I thought WAIT! What if we could make this bigger? get more people involved, more donations, more balls, help more kids?

I feel really passionately about this, and I'm sure lots of you guys do too, so I guess I'm asking for ideas and suggestions on how I can make this possible. I've thought about setting up a charity, but I want to make sure it would actually work and that ALL the money went towards buying stuff for the kids, not paying anyone to do paperwork as often happens...

So any ideas? Also, do you think it would be a good idea? Criticisms welcome smile

Hi Guy! Yeah, that would be awesome, I just hope I have enough free time... I think I'm going to try and sort something out for christmas first and see how that goes and then worry about expanding... It's just so exciting!
