Sometimes I just feel like wafting

Hello everyone who has taken the time to welcome the newcomer! I feel very honored to be among so many fellow spinners. In all likelyhood, my contribution to this board will pale in comparison to some of the more prominent figures here, but I suppose I can try to help out here and there . This being an introduction thread and all, I suppose I'll tell you a bit about myself in the next paragraph.

I am currently finishing up my degree in Biochemistry/Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Arizona, most likely pursuing a post-graduate business degree once I receive my diploma. Unfortunately, my true love is writing/spinning, and I can only get a minor in writing. Either way, I have been predominantly a staff spinner for just over a year now, fiddling with meteors, swords, and fans from time to time. I have spent good deals of time teaching the art of fire spinning recently, as well as trying to work on my own tricks. I love white chocolate, prefer the forest to any other environment (though, I live in a desert), and seem to be subconciously driven to pursue something related to fire spinning instead of a "typical" job.

I am working on a new experiment, being heavily trained in chemistry and the scientific process and all. I am hoping to finally put some hard numbers down to what has, to my knowledge, still been a bit of a mystery to the fire community. A direct comparison of fuels in terms of length of burn, brightness, and emitted fumes (a lovely set of graphs). This should be compounded with information gathered from various types of wicking, whether Kevlar (R), cotton, ect, at various lengths and tightness/types of wick folds. Money/time permitting, I might even get to toss in the effects of temperature. The goal? Try to find a sliding scale of information so that spinners from around the globe can more accurately determine which rigs they need/want.

Anyone care to wish me luck as I scrounge the university for someone willing to donate a spectrophometer that will calculate the brightness of fires and give me solid numbers to work with?

I bring it up in case anyone has some information on the subject already, since I did some searching and was unable to find very much on the subject.
