yay! It's been more than 10 years that I've been pining for a dog of my own. Never had one growing up, and lacked both the time and space since leaving home a decade ago. I now have the time and a lovely large garden perfect for a dog.

Finally, after months and months of searching for the right breeder etc, my girl Indigo comes to live with me from Monday 9th January. She's a Golden Retriever. I'm taking 2 weeks off work to help settle her in and start training her. I will be crate training her and utilising a play pen for confinement training.

YAY! biggrin ubbrollsmile Anyone else out there with dogs who have some advice for a newbie?

Awww, she's gorgeous. I used to have a Golden Retreiver called Amber. She died when she was 6 frown. But she was the most beautiful dog ever and no dog could ever match her.

I've been pining for a dog for ages now, but instead we have a silly cat with bipolar! frown

One day when I get a decent house and money, I'll get a dog...probably not a Goldren Retriever, because I fear I would be constantly comparing it to Amber...

.All things are beautiful if we take the time to look.

That is one cute puppy...

I doubt it'll last though... Before you know it, she'll be huge and getting into all sorts of trouble... And then she discover boy-dogs, and, and...

But seriously, she looks lovely. the only advice I can give, is begin training straight away, but instead making it seem like discipline, make it seem like a game. that way, you'll have a lovely, good natured dog that will do exactly what it's asked.

Empty your mind. Be formless, Shapeless, like Water.

yea i know this sound really really really mean but listen to this from a girl with 2 dogs that live inside and both of them are housetrained

if she poos or pees on the floor rub her nose in it and tell her no

they do not like the way is smells and it stop them quicker than anything else

and it wont make her mean i trust both dogs, one is a fox terrier and one is a lab, to be in a room with michelle alone and they wont hurt her

note to everyone i am high so this probably dont make sense

try to figure it out ok?

Bah, just re-read your original post and realised that we will be slightly miss-timed. But catching up with you would be as good as seeing the pup!!! Give me a call and let me know what works for you!!

I'm actually really nervous. I have minimal maternal instincts.

You know how when you wanted something for so long, and the desire of obtaining it becomes second nature, almost an obsession.... Well, what happens when you actually get what you want? Am I going to be able to handle it? Will actually having a dog fill the void that getting the dog has created? The void being the result of no longer having a burning desire to chase..

Does any of that make sense?

I think I might actually cry when I first get her. I'll have to wear my rockstah sunglasses, cos I'm collecting her from the airport.

I'm sure you will be able to handle it, as it is something you've wanted for so long, your want to keep it... And when you get what you want... you tend to be happy... well I am anyway biggrin

And as for the rockstah glasses, gd call... She does look lovely... biggrin

You're right Asena smile I will be fine. And, like you, I am happy when I get what I want. I suppose I have never really had to wait 10 years before getting what I want prior to this - I'm in new territory. It will probably be a massive relief and much rejoicing and emotional outpouring will occur when I get her.

I got a jack russel kadie about a month ago called puppy. Shes so tiny!

And really badley trained.

At nearly 11 months she hadn't been house trained as her previous owner just left paper down when he went to work, and rarely took her out for a walk.

With all the families hard work, we've got her trained not to piddle indoors during the day, and we rarely have an accidant at night, and if there if one its on the news paper that we laid down for me.

Just to go back to heya honeys point...if you must do that only rub there nose in the wee, not poo. And as gently as you can.

I think her previous owner did that to Kadie, as when we first got her she used to flinch when ever we picked her up frown

We take her out for regular trips during the day to the front garden, and give her a chocolate button if she performs, and take her for a long walk in the evening around the local park. She can sit when asks now, and I've vaguely got her give me her paw..I'm still working on that biggrin

She so small, wont grow any bigger, her tail isnt docked, shes the craziest maddest dog I've ever seen or heard and shes perfect biggrin

I hope you have mnay years of happyness with your doggeh biggrin

the cute lil thing will be spooked after she gets off the plane. give her a few days at home with you so she learns she will be staying there.crate training ( for me) was the easiest way to get my pekingnese house trained. very fast and effective and he still loves to sleep in his crate. i leave it open now and he goes in and out as he wants. good luck with your puppy, they are so much fun!
