Poi Same Direction Split-Time Double Throw Tutorial

14/2/08

Playing 2

Still much to learn, but I thought it was worth posting my progress

Playing

This is my first real effort at a vid, using footage I shot ealier in the autumn. Lots of base tangles, throws/ wibbles and stalls. Lots of things wrong with it (footwork, 'flow', tall bloke standing still gangliness and lots of stuff not featured that I use lots now (long arm, inversions, anti-spin etc) but I'd like to think its worth a watch. If nothing else it gives me a reference point to work from

10/7/07

My first burn with the latest version of the all kevlar rope fire poi, intended to allow throws and wibbles etc.

Quality is fine unless you watch full screen- I couldn't be arsed to waste a week on encoding and Vista has lost all my old settings (Yakumo where are you know?

Just trying to get a feel for the new toys- longarm is a bit shoddy (can you tell I spin in my living room most of the time?

Very nice smile It's good to see some of that stuff actually in action, rather just reading wibble this and wibble that. thanks for sharing smile.

smile loved it: I've always thought you have a nice clean spinning style dude, and I particularly liked the double throws!

In fact, that was so good that I'm going to express my support for you at this website

ubblol

on the other hand, enjoyed your juggling poi!!! made me quite like tangles and the "techie" stuff, and that's coming from someone who drools over dancey spinning. So well done!

I doubt I'll ever truly escape the Aled Jones moinker- I found a picture of me when I was about 13, fully dressed in my choir robes looking like a little angel (yeah right). I was tempted to post it but figured it wouldn't do my anti-Aled campaign any good. Nevermind smile

Gayle: The dancey fluid spinning is what i've been concentrating on since not long after I shot the footage for that vid- I'm glad you liked it though smile

ello... that's a wicked vid! ubblove love the throws and the stalls, both uber clean and effortless despite the wind! an all the fast little changes. very sphercular spinning style you got there mr.c (reminds me of both matt and jon!) an with some nice personality thrown in too... biggrin an i definately liked the little foot flick towards the end! ubblol

i just wanna know what you were listening to at the time? was it the same track or something a bit more furious? umm

p.s. please post the photo... i won't laugh (much)... honest! ubbangel

Dub- The picture will not see the light of HOP... well maybe one day, but it won't be soon smile

As for what i was listening to- hmmm it could have been quite a few things- i recorded quite a bit of footage that day, and there was anything from Dusted, Chemical Brothers through to Lemon Jelly and a few others. Dunno TBH- I tend to go for funky beaty but I allow myself the odd electronica indulgence (oo it might have been Hybrid/ Gravastar- I LOVE that tune- i'm saving it for a later vid though biggrin)

I am trying to slow myself down a bit and get rid of stumbly wanderings, but I don't think I'll ever be a truely graceful dancey type- I can dream smile

Thankyou for the feedabck dude biggrin I have been a little disheartened at the lack of comments, though its got lots of hits (I've had to buy more bandwidth twice ubblol)

Nice video smile smile smile

Given the look of concentration on your face and the speed at which you were spinning I doubt you had much time to devote to your dancing. I know when I spin that fast it's usually a matter of trying not to screw up, and I don't do throws, no let me rephrase that. I don't do catches.

There's some beautiful stuff in there, notably the double throws, and that really cool btb throw with a catch on your outstretched hand @ 2:10 or thereabouts. Ditto the foot flick.

Good job on leaving the screw ups in too, I liked the loose one poi but continue on with the other, The big throw was great too

Ooooooooo Mr C you are fabby. Only negative thing I see in both the fire and garden sock spinning it sometimes it looks like your left hand is playing the stooge to your right.

Other than that you are amazing... oh and you need to wiggle your bum more when your backs to the camera biggrin

Skully: Yeah, both those vids do expose my right handed favouring- I do mix it up far more these days (since 'playing') but I am more confident with my right. It's probably worse in the fire vid because I was stood on the path next to the river, and I didn't fancy dropping one of my new toys in the drink smile
