Any cheezy B-flick is usually a good bet.

Try some movies like the Doom Generation, Alfred Hitchcok's North by Northwest, Snatch, Hellraiser, or Kentucky Fried Movie.

Unless, of course, you are looking for drum samples in which case I'd have to think on it.

A good rhythm sample is the sound of a cash register printing out a receipt, the longer the better.

Colleges are often good for echoey spaces too, so you could find a good echo spot and yip, yell, laugh really loud, moan, etc.

Locker rooms and gyms can have interesting sound textures too. If you get some good basketball squeaking and thumping, you might get some good bits out of that.

The coffeehouse might be worth a listen too...

Okay, i'm afraid i'm about tapped now... Good luck!

We got the MikeZ in the house, woot!Glue the ham, hat baby!

Oooh! See if you can gain access to a machine shop or somewhere they have lots of loud machines and stuff. I work in a machine shop and a lot of the machines I run make all sorts of wierd and cool sounding noises and rythms.

you are amazing me these days with such quick thoughtful concise replies that just sum it all up in one swift go! Good on you my friend!

Spiral... Anything can be made into anything! I really want to record everything...

My friend once took those metal chineese balls that have little chimey things inside and made it into this huge fucked up crashing sound to start one of his bad ass psytrance tunes.

Be free... sample everything at the end of the day you dont have to use it if you dont like it right?!

BTW (by the way for non e-tards)
what sample rate are you using as it could drastically effect the quality and as such the sound of the sample which you make...

Much love n hugs, Drome

Ta, my brother is a musician specialising in found sound electronica, so I'm used to walking around everywhere with a tape recorder permanently switched on, listening out for good samples. His albums become an audio record of his and our family's lives.

Drop things. Seriously...

Take a random object you have lying around and try dropping it at different angles and heights. The variety of sounds you get is amazing. [Yes I am easily amused]. Breaking them is optional, but fun.

Good ideas! I thought about recording everything, but as I don't really do anything at the minute, it'd only be the sounds of my room. Future sound of london do alot of messarsing around with sounds too. I want to sample someone spinning fire too.... that would be quite good.

Defineately!!! that would be very cool thankyou drome, and by the way, were they KG jars or just the small ones (not that it matters!! )
hmm, you might have to watch out though if the mind gap starts bidding, he is quite fond of my cooking, and not to keen on cooking himself (which he'd have to do if I got bought).
love, light and hugs

I think in less than two years I'll be running around with a Dat permanently in hand...

Damn I got to make a customized bag these hobbies are getting into a way of life carrying them with me wherever I go!

I dont leave my house without my pois and soon without my lovely staff... Named it Elfpixie!

So anyways...
They were smalle jars at first but then they got bigger I was scared Flynt would bid too high so I had to make the ultimate bid!

Much love, Drome

well, Id suggest everything also but Dom beat me too it. recording the sound of an empty room is great for back ground filler..or even the sound of the wind blowing can be too. I personally like the sounds of nature, and also the sounds of everyday sounds we take for granted and "tune out"...Exotic sounds or ethic sounding instruments.....chants...gongs, bongos, triangles, violins, Cellos..whatever. I always wanted to do a song with old TV commericals, TV shows, and toys sounds ..maybe campie sounding but I'd have fun in the process.

And all my days are trances And all my nightly dreamsAre where thy gray eye glances And where thy footstep gleams-In what ethereal dances By what eternal streams. Edgar Allan PoeThe prophet is a fool and the religious man is fucking mad, and for the multitude of your sense and your inequity, and the great hatred......NANCY BOY

Goddess, great minds think alike.

Whatever sound you put into a song people will actively listen to, which they might not normally do and this will be an education to them. So you have to start actively listening to everything and find the fascinating in the everyday.

Hmm.... couldn't agree more, if people are actively listening to your music, sampling is a great way of conveying a message
