We've had a thread about beautiful songs...so why not sad songs?

I'm just curious as to what songs you listen to when you're feeling sad, lonley, soppy etc... songs that help you 'cope' kind of thing.

May I suggest a couple:

Come To Nothing - Evermore

Nothing Compares to you - Sinead O'Connor

1000 Oceans - Tori Amos

.All things are beautiful if we take the time to look.

Don't think they're sad songs, more emotive songs. I think of sad songs more to be songs that remind me of sad occasions, though they generally stop being so bad after a while.

Damn the addictiveness of forums! (Or should it be addictivity?)

ditto about songs reminding you of an occasion

I can't listen to teardrop by massive attack or get a move on by mr scruff because it was played at my friends funeral

Although there are some songs that are sad, even without a connection to a sad time

Jonathan Richman - Affection
Massive Attack - Teardrop
Nick Drake - River Man
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
Radiohead - Street Spirit
Nick Cave - Hallelujah (though the whole No More Shall We Part album would do it).

Yes it's sad. And yes it refers to a sad moment. Worst part is, that moment hasn't come yet, but I know it will frown

Gotta love Nick Cave.

My vote is for Bright Eyes (The band, not that cheesy song). Again, just about all of their songs. Here are some good ones:

- Land Locked Blues

- Arienette

- Let's Not S**t Ourselves

- The Center of the World

Evanescence - My Immortal

I used to think that was the saddest song ever. I think the first time I heard it I cried!

Definately with the Johnny Cash.

When I'm depressed it's all about Lucero.
(Not the latin super group Lucero, but the Lucero from Tennessee fronted by Ben Nichols that probably none of you have ever heard of, lol.)
They have *the saddest* songs ever written.

Lately I've been totally hooked on The Inner Universe by the Yoko Kanno Project, though.

I personally don't know if I have any sad songs, I listen to them all the time but don't really see them as sad. I like they're uplifting voices etc. Erm... otherwise favourite ones of these songs would be:

Alice in Chains - Nutshell
A Perfect Circle - Orestes
Hell is for Heroes - The Quiet Song

Otherwise my mind is totally blank dammit!!!! I know I like more songs than this but there it is

Monkeys monkeys and bananas
