Hi, I'm Sarah, I live over on the west coast in canada. I picked up the poi for a few days while living with my old roomate and was facinated by it. a few weeks later I tried to make my own by putting in glass nuggets... well... that didn't last long before I smacked myself silly so I saw stars...mad2
soo I gave up and forgot..
and then..
I went camping a few weeks ago and saw another girl playing and got excited. Came home made another pair.. this time out of foam balls (WAY WAY WAAAAAY better when you get hit) and have been an avid addict for coming on three weeks and currently trying to master the 5 beat weave. ubbrollsmile Oh it will be done... it will....

welcome to HoP Catsmio

I'm guessing you have already looked at the lessons on HoP so.........

You could try out Mots place for transition moves. Click on "poi" then on "the list". Scroll to the bottom and there are a group of them. To find combitnations of moves that fit together I found it easiest just to learn most of the basic moves and transitions on their own until I had each fairly solidly. I then just put on some music I loved and played about with putting them together. You'll find your own style that way and also what feels natural to you. Just remember once you find something you like, try it in reverse or with the other hand leading. That way you won't end up with one lead hand and will get a more balanced style.

Wraps are useful too. Mot has some on his site as does Coley at Do more poi. Click on "lessons" at the top of the forum.

I hope that helps biggrin

Hi and welcome Sarah! wave The 5 beat weave will come soon (if it hasn't already). I think you'll find downloading videos pretty useful as a learning tool.. Always good to know what can be done, or other people are doing. Is there a local scene?

ROBYN!! Come home soon!! I can't wait!

Thanks Skulduggery I checked out domorepoi he's helped me out and I CAN DO THE 5 BEAT!!! Whoooooo

So now it's just about behind the back is the new fad.

Local scene? I have little clue, there seems to be three or so main groups on the west coast, PrimalFire, Poi Pixies and Playpoi which has opened a studio here in Vancouver. Poi pixies are awesome!
They have nights where it's a club alternative and bring in amazing Dj's and run works shops in their studio from beginers all the way to fire.

Check them out @ https://poipixies.com/

They are alot of fun! I went down and met one last week, soooo nice. This chick can dance like noones buisness but with poi in her hands..
The REAL trick is to make it look easy and she does.

I'm going to eventually sign up for a fire class, she'll teacher about the good fuels, fire saftey and I get to make my own.

primalfire.org -->another Victoria BC Canada based group and they're a married couple and some friends and they have fun too..

ange is spinning - slightly - but not with them.

i'm very out of touch with canadian spinners....and anything that's outside of my london bubble for that matter.

there's the north american poi forum....tribe.net. maybe? i could be getting it wrong. and it's not just north american....but more inclined that way than HOP.
