Cassandra - do the right click, save image as thing
then open it on your computer and jump up and down on it til it fits in the little avatar box
(sorry my technical knowledge is limited and falls a bit short )

Press Ctrl-W and change the height and width to 6% of the original. 'Save as' it to your desktop, choosing the file type as jpg. Then on HoP in your settings for avatar, click the browse button, select it from your desktop and away you go
