My real name is Mark. But, I'm a member of the SCA, so my name there is Marius. I have just recently started spinning fire. My friends back in Texas got me started with it. I first saw them spin and thought I could never do it, but alas... here I am...

I started with a staff, spinning it as much as I could. With a little tweaking here and there, my friends had me spinning fire for the first time a couple weeks ago. It was there that I also got introduced to a flaming sword and flaming whip, both I enjoyed. Upon my arrival back in San Diego, California, I set out to learn poi. My friends directed me to this web site. In three long days, I've learned a good majority of moves already. They are not completely smooth yet, but I'm working on it.

I'm very anxious to meet other spinners out there. I can be reached on AIM with the same screenname I have here. I can also be reached on MSN, using the e-mail address I provided here.

Thanks for replying, Myco. I was afraid everyone was just going to ignore me, like other forums I've been to. I'm hoping that HoP will help me learn enough about poi to freak out my friends back home. I surprised them when I showed them I knew how to spin a staff, but I want to blow them away with spinning poi...

poeple won't ignore you, there are time's when it's busier here, and times when it's slower, but all in good time you'll get asked about pink preferences, be anti hated and generally interogated (in a good way!)

my advice it find out if there are any spinning meet ups in your area. i've been teaching myself on and off for a few years, and progress is slow, just started meeting up with others and learning heaps of new stuff. have you had a look at 'events and gatherings' and 'meet others' yet?

I looked briefly, but there appears to be only one person from San Diego here and she hasn't replied to me. Everything seems to be north of me, like in Los Angeles and San Fransisco. I've been practically self taught, especially poi. But, I feel that I could benefit from practicing with others...

Wow, that's a new one... BTW, I failed to see the disclaimer on this web site stating how addicting fire spinning can be, poi especially. Maybe it's because I was born under a fire sign (Leo), or maybe it's because I was a pyro before I learned about fire spinning, or maybe it's just because I'm a freak... take your pick...

Well, aside from fire spinning and chivalric combat via the SCA, I'm also a middle eastern drummer. I've gone through two dumbeks now, on my third. I've also danced middle eastern, my most requested being 'The Dance of the Simitar'.

Not so much of a hobby, I'm currently Active Duty U.S. Navy, serving onboard the USS Ronald Reagan. I can just imagine the looks people will have when I practice onboard (Without fire, of course).

I also dabble in computer graphics design. On my other forums, I have created custom graphic signatures and avatars.

I can't really think of much else right now... maybe after I've gotten some sleep...

You have no need to worry about getting ignored here, everyone is really friendly! smile

My state of mind is not yours to define!

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Welcome to HoP Greyedge. *giggle* I would love to see peoples reaction aboard ship when you spin too.

welcome i love unique places for spinning...aboard ship sounds fun - try it with fire lolsign joking...but that would be something to see... I spin on the ski hill all the time, though only once with fire...the time will come though... stay safe with your duties... hug

...it's safe to say that relationships inspired by the art of poi are not necessarily 'poi'fect...!

It might be a little difficult to spin on a U.S. Navy ship... but maybe they'll let me. If I do, I'm definitely taking pictures and a video camera...
