Okay people, I know you're out there!!!

So, what is it about Donnie Darko? I know a lot people who have seen this movie, and everyone loves it to tears.(except for Flid, who I didn't know had seen it and in fact fell asleep during it.) I do too! It's just a really really good movie, although I have NO idea why. Everytime I watch it I genereally get really confused about time and all that.

So, why is it such a popular movie? And Frank's bunny mask can't be a valid reason! We all know it's cool biggrin tongue

People like to be headf*cked. The Matrix wasn't just popular for the action, the philosophy behind it was really interesting to people.. same goes for DD, I reckon.

Although the person who thought it up has a very odd conception of what time is, in my opinion. And perhaps the fact it's linked to time travel is not quite right.. I'd say it was more about dimensionality.

Time is so open to subjective perception anyway - i don't get why it headf*cks people when this kinda movie comes out. It just gives me another angle to look at the universe and that's why i like em.

If they make you question your blind acceptance of traditional science's explanations of things then they've done their job.

Great film anyway wink

nothing to do with Donnie Darko. haven't seen it either in fact.

but the reactions here just reminded me of when i went to see the Return of the King with my best mate.

after sitting through all 3 epics, each averaging 3 & a half hours in length.... she turned around and asked me.....

"so..... did they find the ring?"

Erm.. broked? Huh. British english I don't understnad methinks...

And it is scarily addictive... I bought the DVD, and keep watching it, and it never makes anymore sence than the first time. The problem with it is that I don't actually find that much philosophy in it. Not compared to the Matrix (the first only, please!) And yet it is so addictive...

I would correct the song, but am too lazy...

"Broken Bobo"

And teh song is perfectly correct.

He even says mumble mumble mumble if you listen closely.

That, coupled to the fact that there is an 11 year old girl who is trying to learn how to play "Mad World" on the Saxophoneograph next door to us, means that she is rubbish and needs to practice more.

umm

Hmm.. I don't find it massivley addictive. I have it on DVD but I've only watched it twice. Once to see it and the second time to see it with the knnowledge from the end of the first time..

I think that it has just as much philosophy in it as the Matrix (agreed - first one only!!), but it didn't lead you by the hand through it as much. It let you figure it out for yourself.

It's all about the uncertain nature of reality, maaan... ubbsmokinvegas

I remember having fun watching it.

It certainly is a dark movie about a 'maladjusted teenager' which automatically means you'll get a cult following. I thought it was quite good. Here is Yahoo's review which I'd agree with..

"Some may think that Donnie Darko is a typical maladjusted teenager. Actually, Donnie is borderline delusional, beset by visions of a monstrous rabbit which is trying to keep him under its sinister influence. Prompted by this apparition, Donnie commits antisocial acts while he is undergoing psychotherapy, surviving the vagaries of high-school life and romance, and fortuitously escaping a bizarre death from a falling jet engine. Donnie battles his demons, literally and figuratively, in a series of intertwining story lines that play with time travel, fundamentalist gurus, fate, predestination and the machinations of the universe. Yeah, the director said you could not figure out the movie without the info on the website. Which some would say means the movie is [censored].

I think Donnie's act at the very end is the most heroic thing I've ever seen any film character do, ever. I identified with it because at the time I first saw it, I was wishing I'd gone to work early on September 11, 2001,* and if doing so would save others, I'd do it.

*at 1WTC96. Yes, I'm over it now. Yes, it took a year of therapy.

Yeah, I love the movie. I have the dvd but the neighbor borrowed it so who knows when i'll get it back. In fact im using the lyrics to Gary Jules mad world for my poetry section in English. I didnt understand the movie the first time, but after i watched it some and checked the webpage, read amazon reviews i understood. Of course by now ive tottaly forgotten. I know it had something to do with a metal object killing people to satisfy the time fracture or something. ubbloco

I've only seen it once, and half way through me and my friend went to the pub...came back and watched the rest of it. We weren't drunk, but watching it with a break makes it even more hard to understand whats going on!

I wanted to see it again to see if it would make more sense, but by the sounds of it - i dont have much hope!

i would have changed ***** to phallus, and claire to petey Petey

Good movie, seen it about 3 times and still have no clue what the crap is going on...the website didn't help much either. My friend is quite afraid of bunnies since I made her watch it.
