ok instead of doing the standard spin in the lessons section iv started doing my own thing, and i just want to know if i shud keep the habit, basically im wrapping round one hand and making the spin faster with the other, will this impede my learning? ( i have a video so if you want it pm me and ill add you on msn or something) thanks smile cool weavesmiley

I don't think it will harm you any. I don't do the standard spin that is used in the video lesson either. Instead, I use what I learned as a 3/4 spin from my high school days in flag corps. It hasn't harmed me one little bit, and I've had others comment to me that they think it is visually nicer than the standard one. So I say go for it... beerchug

I don't think there will be any harm in it, in fact, I think I sometimes do exactly what you described biggrin I have had other "professional" twirlers say to me that it is incorrect twirling, but to be honest, I don't think there is any 'wrong' way of doing any twirl, it's just a different way of doing it. So twirl the way you like, make up your own crazy moves and have fun with what feels right at the time

What's wonderful about twirling is that it's so new... there are no rule books to follow, and make-it-up-as-you-go-along is how most of us learn...
Stick with your way if it's comfortable, learn the other if you want an alternative.
Happy spinning ubbrollsmile

Better a black eye than a burned eye....

mind yourself, be safe.

I too dont think you can spin a staff the wrong way. As well as watching nice moves, people love to see someone enjoying themselves.

I've seen people use a 3/4 spin from flag corps/marching band, and I've seen people use a full turn in each hand. I think it'd be useful to learn both way, but there really is no wrong way of twirling.
