There is heaps of stuff in the shop for newcomers. Try this:
poi for beginners
tailed poi
LED sticks for glow in the dark (don't use the beamers for when you just start out!!)
Staff stuff without fire seems to be in short supply here. However as a beginning, get a broom handle from a hardware store.
If you want a glow staff, there are some just go here for the expensive option and here for a less expensive option

Hey Rozi, thanks for the link to the globug staff, I thought I'd exhausted the search for glow staffs, obviously not. Wadya know bout the globugs? I can't figure if they're constant, strobing, adjustable or what. I really like the fact that they're sectioned, but I think they are too short for me. Perfect for my GF though.

Mmmmm, once upon a time I had a globug staff. Then I lent it to a friend for a performance, and every time I see her (not that often) I forget to ask for it back.
It is a constant light, not very heavy, but well balanced. Would be improved by a switching mechanism on the outside to turn the electroglos on, but still very good, solid and safe.
That being said, I have seen the longer, four electroglo ones, and and they seem a little flimsy in construction.
All in all, not bad, but try before you buy if you can.
