Autum MoonLetter 2004

Greetings Autumn Earth Children*:.

Well with all the heat we’ve had lately… it’s hard to believe we’re on our way into autumn… It’s been wonderful to get some rain though, our earth has really needed it… and the electrical storms have been absolutely spectacular!*:.

Next moonfest on 7th March is the MOTHER EARTH MOON FEST. With the moon in Virgo, an earth sign, and being the day before international women's day, I thought this would be a lovely theme for the next moonfest. And so you know, just because we are celebrating international women's day as part of this moonfest theme, it is definitely NOT gender exclusive... All genders, all ages, all people welcome… Bring your instruments, drums, fire toys and dancing bodies for a jam, twirl and dance under the luminous full moon…

And so... going with that theme... of earthy, feminine goodness... I'd love to have a space for henna art. As many of you have been discussing this on the moonfest groups message board, I've noticed how many people are into doing it or at least interested in it... so if you are a henna artist and would like to contribute a little something special to the next moonfest I'd LOVE to hear from you... the more the merrier... I would be more than happy to pay for henna and any other requirements... or perhaps people could give a donation as they receive the henna treatment...

There are many people interested in learning how to use and apply henna as well... so if anyone is interested in running a casual workshop in the afternoon as part of a sunfest activity.. That too would be beautiful

Another idea was to have mud masks and foot baths/massage... What better way to soften the feet so that we may walk gently on our earth

So anyone interested in contributing it that way (or any other way you feel would be appropriate) I'd love to hear from you as well as any other ideas YOU might have.

It's a festival....festive-all.....ALL FESTIVE!!! .:*BE THE FESTIVAL*:.

A little quote from Maureen on the moonfest msn group message board (https://groups.msn.com/moonfest) I thought I’d share with you:

“March 7th is Clean Up Australia day.

When I was searching the site I noticed that someone has organised to do Moora Park. I figured since this is the place where we all gather for Moonfests it might be a good idea for as many of us as possible to go and lend a hand. This is also the day that Moonfest is on, celebrating mother earth. What better way to celebrate then to help clean her up? It will definitely get us in the mood to party that night! Check out the website: https://www.cleanup.com.au/Main.asp?RequestType=CUASite&SubRequestType=FetchCouncil
Type in Shorncliffe and the name of the person organising it will come up and you can get all the details.”

What a wonderful idea!*:. I was saddened (and a little cranky) at the end of last moonfest to find loads of rubbish (that of which including alcoholic beverages & beer bottles etc... strange for a drug and alcohol free event really) It really was horrendous the amount I picked up... It's never ever been that bad... I think with the extra publicity in the local paper, there were many more spectators, who probably don't know the casual rules (or more so curtesies) that usually need not be said... about taking your rubbish with you ...as well as not necessarily knowing that it is a drug and alcohol free gathering and that rubbish should not even consist of beer bottles etc anyway. So I'm probably having a whinge to the wrong people here, as the usual crowd is on the whole very good... Thankyou to all of you who did take your rubbish with you... or help me with the end of the night clean up. So I agree that the clean up prior... and perhaps after moonfest is an awesome idea. Even if all you can contribute is a handful of rubbish on the way to your car... every bit counts

Autumn Moonfests kick off with .:*MOTHER EARTH MOONFEST, Sunday 7th March …then the date for April will be Monday 5th April (the Monday before the Easter Weekend) and then Tuesday 4th May is the Dusk 'till Dawn moonfest with a moon eclipse at sunrise!*:. Don’t forget cuddly warm things for this one… Now with that eclipse, I can’t actually guarantee anything… I’m not an astrologer, I’m just going by my moon diary that says we should be able to see the early stages of it at sunrise in Aus, N.Z and Asia… So I’m hoping… Moon Diary also says “In South-East Asia a common practice at this time is to make as much noise as possible, banging pots and pans to stop the dragon from eating the moon” (www.moondiary.com.au) Though I don’t suggest we do this, being in suburbia, I do however, feel that the moon-eating-dragon would make a beautiful theme for this one… I think a dusk ‘till dawn moonfest will be amazing… have you all seen the sun rise at Shorncliffe? It’s beautiful!!! I would love to share that treasure with you all.

Loads of love and earthy goodness

I have endless disgust at rubbish and bottles etc... when we go swimming at our waterholes I always end up picking bits of chip packets and beer bottles and bottle caps etc up. Sometimes people seem to go out of there way to stash these things high up in trees and stuff - wouldn't it be easier to just chuck it in your pocket or car? rolleyes: I too could go on and on....!! mad wink

I will come to clean too provided my study hasn't stapled me to the ceiling.

peace

ummmmmm... not to be the boring sensible one... rolleyes but the actual burning the wicker dragon bit isn't covered by our insurance or the council-kind-of-permission thingy... umm but if you wanted to still have it I guess it could join all the other giant moonfesty things under my house...??? rolleyes tongue wink

ubbideaOOOORRRR... if we want to change our mind and do a big firey thing for Bayfire at Easter this year then we could talk to them about burning large non-kevlar structures...? wink

what do ya all think? ubbrollsmile cool

Bec, I think he means wicker, as in kevlar wick (?).... so I don't see how this is different to fire sticks or fire wings or other fire sculptures we've lit at moonfest... like the phoenix etc. I know we can't have bonfires etc... but we've done fire sculpture with kevlar before... why not again? confused

Brainstormer... have you got a floating platform hiding up your sleave??? rolleyes tongue wink hehehe*:.

nup I reckon he means like cane... as in wicker basket..

who wins brainstormer? and what do I get??

but if we make a kevlar one on the other hand that's a completely different (but slightly more expensive) option.. I do have a bit of the stuff hanging around here depending on the scale of it... but then about this floating platform.. eek

hmmmmmmmm... (crazy artist types rolleyes ubbloco wink)

silly pixies

well we will have to see about a prize

but bec is right it is made from wicker not kevlar but that is a thought to make up a wire fram and put eh wikck on theout side and flame it up

the burning of the wicker man is seen as warding off the bad spirits of the last year
that i vagly remeber there is a simular thing in easter society with a parrade of "lanterns" in all diffrent shapes (animals and mithical creachers) that at the end of the parade they are burnt (think for simular reasons to the pagan wicker man)

had thought of making up a platform in the classic style of a raft made froma couple of 44 gallon drums with a wooden platform on top (thinking a sheet of mettal on top to make it a bit more flame proof to) the idea of it being on water was to light it up in the night and burn it at sun rise as the moon eclipses but by being on water it removes the likly hood of any one getting injured while its burning

now if it were more like elkies image she had i think we could do a wire fame and then rap heshan inside chicken wire and crest the body that way and again burn it at dawn

may be able to borrow a eco worrior canoo for this as well so i can get out on the water to the platform to light it

Just a reminder that moonfest is on this Monday 5th April smile See you there

Brainstormer... your ideas sound awesome biggrin But i'm unsure as to how much of that we could actually do down there in a public space... There may be issues with fire being anywhere near the old wooden jetty...

So next moonfest... if you read back on the first page of this topic, you'll read that the next moonfest is a Dusk 'till Dawn!!! biggrin With a lunar eclipse at sunrise... Bring all your warm fuzzy cozy goodness... as it might get a little chilly in the wee hours of the morning*:. I'm not sure how much of the moon eclipse we will be able to see from where we are... but fingers crossed... and the sunrize over the ocean is a magnificent sight in itself!*:.
