well i did a survey for a christian the other day and came out as mainly an existentualist with a lot of nature loving... i also like the buddhist idea of right living. if you strive to be nice or follow the most considerate action in every part of your life i reckon you become happier with yourself etc...

at the end of the day though i guess i just take the bits i like from each philosphy or religion and do what i think is best!

hope that provides a kind of answer...

thats really a gross oversimplifcation, the symbolism is deeper than that. The understanding is kind of intrinsic, the yin yang just says it well.



oh yeah, if anything im a taoist, but just try pinning down what that is. Although i seem to have scored cristian scientist on the religion test, but i dont think a taoist wrote it.



in taoism evil isnt an issue, neither is luck, or death. the linking you see between female and death can be better described as link to the void, the tao, from the female we are created, and we return to the void in death. Lao Tze says "we should stand in darkness, and face the light."

p.s. its not that i dont question what i read, but it does seem to agree with me more than anything else. sometimes its just framing the unframable, the heart of mystery.

I'm sorta with duballstar on this one. My idea of religion is to take the bits and pieces of others that I like and incorporate them into my own sort of philosophy.

I also think it's important to question that which you don't understand about certain ones, and to figure out what works best for you. Not all religions/philosophies work for all people. Find what helps guide you when you need it to, and if something doesn't quite work, question why and adapt.

To me, life is one big evolving experience that we just need to figure out how to deal with personally and whatever helps you to be happy is a good solution, although it may be a changing one.

Do a search for the "belief-o-matic". it was around a few weeks back, all your religious questions answered in 1 little quiz... (do it, it's quite funny!)

And i'm not in agreement with the results you found for representations of Yin & Yang. I've been doing Tai Chi for a number of years now, at work at the moment though, will post in more detail for you later......

I'm supposedly a 'christian' as I was christianed(sp?) but the only time i ever went to church was with the Brownies (and when i went to stay with some americans they made me go to a catholic church which was really weird). When and if i have kids Im not going to christian them, and if they choose to belong to a religion when their older then so be it. My parents are definatly not religious yet they got me christianed. All my friends are christianed yet they don't go to church. Don't you think that in 75% of the cases baby's are only getting christianed because its fashionable? rant over.....im and atheist. Oh! have you heard on the news that in Britian they're trying to get atheism taught in RE lessons?

I did the belief-o-matic thing and came back as 100% unitarian universalist which, according to them seems to be a kind of religious dumping ground: Belief in deity - very diverse beliefs; Origin of universe and life - diverse beliefs; Undeserved suffering - diverse beliefs.

Funnily enough the lowest compatability I got (21%) was on the Roman Catholocism I was raised on.

There is a slight possibility that I am not actually right all of the time.

Yeah i heard about that, i think its agood idea to let kids know there is such a thing as athism, but its still a "category to class yourself under"

I think all children should be given the choice of what they want "be" teach them the philosophies that seem right, that bring you happiness and sucess and love. Well at least bieing christened doesnt harm you in any way, some religions alter thier new borns bodies not giving them achoice in the matter, but i guess its because they are passionate about what they believe in, its what you "do" in this religion.

Athieism as was pointed out this weekend is not a religion it is defined as an absence of religion how the dilly are they gonna teach that in schools?


I am essentially a christian, i believe in god, i believe that jesus died for me and that to live like he did is a good thing to do.

The essential part of christianity (and most other religions) 'do unto others as you would have them do onto you' or the karma bit

dont worry in my opinion you wont burn in hell, cos there is no hell and you will get people who love you or hate you if you are passionate about something there will always be someone that hates your guts as they are passionate about something completly different or opposing.

this is where the belief o matic is.

its off a site called beliefnet.com - it's really good if you're experimenting with different stuff.

personally i tend to describe myself as a quaker taoist, but i was brought up evangelical, then pagan!

the yin yang questing is an interesting one, take a look at this thread form beliefnet, it's an interesting view for similar reasons.

but personally i would say that just because feminine aspects are related to yin, that doesn't mean it's related to the other things that yin stands for.

in general taoism doesn't view women as feminine and men as masculine - it's more like a trait that anyone can have as well as all the other traits listed. It's also worth remembering that having a dark side is considered completely neccesary, you need both in a way so it's not a bad thing at all.

same for me too Eera, Unitarian Universalism got 100% as well.
And strangely enough it seems to fit in very nicely with my world view at the moment I'm a religous dumping ground too!
