Hi, i`m chris and i want to learn how to handle the staff.
How do i have to start? which equipment do i need? long staff? short staff?
what is the best way to practice?
any suggestions?

i'd check out the staff section and see if any of the threads there help you. and poke around and talk to us all 
I was always scared with my mother's obsession with the good scissors. It made me wonder if there were evil scissors lurking in the house somewhere.

...nice member number!!Check the Help section and ask lots of questions in the tech section. Everyone is a wonderful help here
And I'd personally recommend this. I got it on DVD and it's pretty comprehensive for a beginner...like me!

Welcome to HOP Chris! Looks like you already have plenty of advice on how to get started but just a few more things: Choose a staff length thats comfortable for you. In the "go shopping" section of HOP you may view a variety of fire staves with different lengths so you know whats available. You can purchase a firestaff right away and begin practicing with that (minus the lighting on fire part) or you can construct a generic practice staff so you can get used to staff before making an investment (a 1 inch diameter wooden dowel cut to a comfortable length works well, you can purchase them at just about any hardware store). And, of course, the "free lessons" section has rough animations of basic staff moves that are a tremendous help. Come up with a style that is comfortable for you and then add and modify from there.
