Just had an idea... if you own a bike, don't bikes come with a foam/rubber protector around the chassis? Couldn't you duct tape this around your staff for grip. It would be pretty big, you couldn't fingerspin with it... hmmm.Something thin, and made of rubber. Okies, have you ever seen those really thin pieces of rubber in a homeware store that people buy to help them open bottles? They are grip cloths or something. Does anyone know the ones I mean? As far as I know, they shouldn't be more than a few dollars. Just tape that down, or even buy some heavy duty O-rings from a hardware store and pop those over it to hold it down instead of tape. The total cost should be under $5 anyway, if it is more expensive then I guess think of something else.

Need a bit more info DIANNA - what's your staff made out of, and why do you suspect it is so slippery? We might be able to help with a few more details.....

Putting 3m medical tape (a cheap, tacky tape used on bandage and cotton wool, at every pharmacy) in wide spiralling bands from the ends towards the centee tends to absorb a lot of fuel and prevent the slipperyness becoming a major problem.Personally, i like to put fuel on the staff to make it slick for certain moves, especially palm spins...------------------Charles (INFERNO)newdolbel@hotmail.comhttps://juggling.co.nz

Or...You could take a bicycle tube, get a pair of scisors, cut out the intake valve stem, proceed to cut a line down the entire length of the tube producing a long strip of rubber. Cut this strip into 4 or 5 thin strips, again long-ways. THen, wrap, from a safe distance away from the wicks to prevent meltage, one strip, in a spiral, dowmthe length of the staff. the end of the strip that you start the spiral with should hold itself in place, while the 'end' end will require a few wraps of foil tape(found in most hardware stores, used for air conditionin installation). For balance and asthetic purposes, you can wrap the 'start' end with the foil tape also. sorry so wordy.

ive been toying with this problem coz i find my glowstaff too smooth. i cant use tape/etc coz it'll block out the light. the solution ive found was from using some guys aerotech glow staff pro (expensive, but oh my god worth it). he had something which i asumed to be silicone on his staff. im guessing its the kind of silicone type stuff that u get in tubes used to seal things like windows or bathtubs. its relatively transprent, so the light should come thru. my girlfriend suggested using a gluegun, but im not sure how transparent the glue is once its set. ------------------Flame on!

There's actually silicone grip tape out there. It's pretty amazing stuff. It's slightly cushiony and suitably grippy. It's also rated to 500°F and it fuses to itself, creating a continuous enclosure without any sticky tape. I've wrapped a few fire toys with it and quite like it.

try leather!! old belts from charity shops (they will need a bit of work to get them soft) i use a wooden staff and secure the ends with a stapler and then wrap the leather strip around the middle 9 inches.finish it off with some interesting tape. it needs lots of strength to wind on but it works brilliantly. enjoy. this may not be suitable for vegans and vegatarians but then again most other solutions to "grip" involve hydocarbons and pollution. hmmmmmm.
