Beginner tip: Lengthen your strings about 4 inches when trying new moves (4 inches past Hand to pit length) this will alow you to get the hand and arm motions down better with out hitting your self, and "when" you do whack yourself, it wont hurt as bad. which leads me into beginner tip #2: Slow down...people that spin for the first time have no fear, and the whip the POI in all directions around their body with no control, then when they do hit them selves, they are like "forget this crap"Slow, easy, and deliberate.."S"------------------"Only the warrior that hears the call will know when to leave, Where to go" -unknown"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dreams"- Willy Wonka[This message has been edited by Superman (edited 10 May 2001).]

Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear--not absence of fear.

I'll give one tip for now:Do less work.By which I mean, try to do every move with as much economy of motion as possible. Don't muscle the chains through the entire arc, just try to get them on the right path and let momentum do most of the work. Don't flail, don't make exaggerated movements (except by design), use your wrists, not your arms. Some of the mistakes I see other twirlers make (and I make myself sometimes) basically boil down to "trying too hard"--not finding the right path early in a move, but trying to make constant course-corrections, which often winds up with a poi in the face. This is a point I've mentioned before, but had to remind myself of it today. I've been working on lateral butterfly crossovers, but had been having trouble crossing both the chains together. I finally managed today after A) I found the right point in the arc to bring my left hand across and B) I remembered "economy of motion".

concentrate on control...before power...try to do all your moves without any body movement, before trying to incorporate body movement (that way any movement you do will be intensional).Visualise where you want to be, and where you want your Poi to be smileum - ppl like to see flames near bare skin...so tease them a little wink (and then a lot if you are so inclined...)um thats all for now...Josh
