How bout a spin off competition?

Describe for those of me that do not understand spin-off comp please?

How would this be set-up? How would the winner(s) be decided? Would it be head-to-head? Tournament?

I would imagine head-to-head competitions judged by non-competitors would be the easiest way to go.

well because of the distances it would have to be by video so tournament could possibly be easier it could be judged by vote on forums but this is something that is just an idea feel free to brainstorm on ideas and such

The UK would be a great place for an international competition.

Just start a poll with a link to each video on here?

We could do challenges. One person challenges (publicly, in the forum) another person to a spin off, they each make a video, and then a poll is put up along with the two videos, and the rest of the forum makes the decision.

Could give, say, a week to vote.

Ranked matches would be pretty dope!

sorry for my terrible memory i have forgotten about this since the last time i posted in this thread well yes there are inexpensive plane tickets but unfortunately my rights to getting a passport have been taken as i am a felon so i am confined to the us unfortunately cuz yes i am american but i wish i could be elsewhere and about the glove slapping i suggest someone make a for one i cannot remember the name of the term for the animations like this smiley but someone should make one that is a glove slapping a face as to challenge people would probably be best to post the glove slap with there name on this thread and as a pm to the person you wish to challenge as well but the only problem with this is people who do not have camera's or tripods or even camera people on hand

Question: What is the basis for doing well? Are we looking at artistry, technical skill, nice location, overall appeal?

"spin off" aka "burn off" - throwing the the staff up into the air with high velocity spin along it's own axis, creating a rotation that causes excess fluid to spray off the freshly lighted staff (combustible liquid that expands when exposed to heat)... the spray lights up from the flame and creates a fireball, similar to a firebreath...



it originates from times where people noticed that kerosene expanded when lit and that the audience and environment was getting sprayed with paraffin. it was intended to protect bystanders and respect nature.

And then came spin off cans.

imo it is a rather environmentally unfriendly act, which is avoided by environmentally conscious spinners. It generally is performed by people who do not use spin off cans, nearly all staff and poi will spray if no spin off can is used.

some performers experience the effect of expanding kerosene, when lighting their fire fans and immediately holding them up in the air (burning kerosene dribbling on their fingers (at best))

though it certainly is a spectacular opening for a fire show/ performance - due to it's excessive use of kerosene - I personally would rather not see HoP sponsor a competition which is purely based on the burning of excess Kerosene. As it would be the main and only objective of the competition, people who participate end up dipping - spin off - extinguishing (at best) - dipping again - spin off... [/sanctimonious, condescending post]

could call it the Monster Spin Off competition...
