I am new here after a friend recomended I join, and I intend on staying for a while.... But I didn't want to come on here and start flooding the forums with babble no one cares about... Not yet anyhow wink. Hopefully I can help in not letting the forum die smile

Seems like a nice little community though smile

I am also new. I don't post much, I'm much more of a real life socializer, but from what I have perused and skimmed of the boards everyone seems very buoyant and charasmatic and just straight up funny. The silly little comments crack me up. So I like Home of Poi boards over rednecks because people are easy going and humourous from what I can tell.

I for one would rather read a informed opinion over what someone had for breakfast any day, and if people post for the sake of it that’s what we will end up with.

Toast and a giant glass or orange juice if your interested.

I Just stopped posting in Social chat because I'm not chatty... and I'm not social wink

I do wonder if there was a competition for active posters if that may get more action or if it would fill the board up with spam. I look at the competitions etc, every now and then, but I've eased back my younger competetive edge so generally just peruse the forums.

is it about postwhoring? I don't think so.

is it about your brekfast? maybe - and if so, then it's because by telling us that you just had cinnamon porridge with cherries (yum, thank you Kyle) it tells us that you do love life in your own way and that you care letting us know about it.

If you tell us that you love guns, I for my part will not side it - but this wouldn't stop me from helping you out, lending you a shoulder if you're feeling down.

I've been the most unchatty person on this board and you only found me in SD, where I might (unintentionally) have offended pretty much every body that didn't agree with what I felt to be "right". And sometimes even those who did agree.

But for me it's really coming to the point of 'understanding'. Not about latent softness (where it's inapropriate) but about learning who you are and - surprisingly - this board helped me to shape my opinions. (Still working on how to get them across tho') wink I for my part like to know what you're thinking - if you keep it under 500 letters that is...

Life's an oyster - so come to claim your pearl grouphug

I think of life like an onion pick the analogy that fits you best wink

1) Lots of layers
2) Get it wrong and you'll cry.
3) smells a bit funny
4) Comes from and returns to the earth
5) hangs around in groups at the shops
6) never rolls smoothly
7) made this up as I went along
8) will get back on topic.

I don't think it's about postwhoring. I think maybe a competition for the most useful/insightful new thread each month, may make people try a bit harder at their toys and come up with some intersting stuff. Push the boundaries a little. It' doesn't even need a tangible prize. Just the title "june winner of best thread" woould go in my signature lol (but I'd celebrate any title I got)
If it helps I do point everyone I teach at workshops who shows interest towards Home of Poi (and Southern Lights of course lol) I wonder how many (if any) I have pointed here have become members who are active I don't really mention my hop name in company much apart from with a few Hoppers I befriended when I joined.

I [semi] agree with your point about poi being a "fad". I first picked up poi near on 5 years ago now and I used to do it every weekend. I then found this notice board and became a "frequent flyer" until a second job took over most of my spare time. I've still got my first ever poi, and I get them out every time I go on holiday for literally the entire time I'm away, despite being the only person with a set.

My point being, I now have several sets and I'm back in the realm of HoP so you might be able to take the spinner away from the poi but not the poi out of the spinner.

Forgive the bluntness, but if a community fails, it’s largely down to its members. To get back on track, effort from everyone who is remotely bothered is needed. Start with organising more meets. Back in the day there used to be loads of meetings!! With the recession kicking in, what better [and cheaper] way to spend an evening than in a park, spinning?

what kinda annoys me a bit are those who wag, pee in the corner and never bother to stroll back to sniff their own mark.... wink

Sir I really agree with what you say - it's down to the members. And by that it really doesn't matter whether or not you're still spinning...

What I like(d) about this community is that I met so many ppl who had the same basic interest (poi) and expressed themselves here. It's fascinating to watch just HOW MANY different spinners are out there and how most of them have some common denominators:

- kindness
- respect
- intelligence and
- balls

That works. Thus my opinions have shifted

I've never noticed this before, mostly as I've been on 10 times maybe in the last 5 years. But at least I have seen people in the flesh in the last year, that has drawn me back.

Did the community move to Facebook? If so, can we use that to our advantage? Is there something that we can do to make this forum more conducive to gatherings and socialization?

What are your ideas?
