Flash photography rant!

Please feel free to say I’m being stupid but are people stupid?

Set the seen. BBQ friends mostly. One person invited because of who they are seeing. A lot of alcohol I had not drunk yet. Its getting dark there are drums and my self in what I tend to call my warrior persona with a fire staff. I’m not doing anything complicated but I’m getting into it. Getting quick and smooth. Spins basic tosses bla bla bla big toss go to catch RED DOT IM MY FACE FLASH OF WHITE LIGHT!!!!! I end up diving to the side only to hear
“hahaha you missed it.” and then he wonders why I offer to shove the camera where the sun doesn’t shin and ram it home with the burning staff!

Am I being unreasonable? Has any one else experienced stupid people like this?

no you are being very professional, a lesser person would have demonstrated

the initial approach is common (red dot, flashing light) - the latter remark ("haha, you have missed it") is what would have caused a "code red" with many other staffers... :evil:

I once spun on Haad Rin beach, when someone full power tackled me (Rugby-style) and I thought "oh my, now he'll beat the crap out of me!" (for what reason ever)... only to look into the eyes of an med-sized ozzie, who stared back into mine and when he saw that spark right there, went "oh sh1t" - got up and started running... he was quick (enough)

Service to say the rest of the night was a disaster although I’m glad its not just me that thinks some people need stringing up.

FireTom I cant believe someone tackled you. The mind boggles.

Its worse when you try and keep going whilst disoriented and set your hair on fire.... the person with the camera then ends up getting a hair cut with lit fans. No idea why they were suprised.

I think you were quite reserved to only tell him what could happen. I would of demonstrated,

slowly,

step by step,

Y'know just so he could understand whole heartedly, that it could be dangerous and he should never do it again.

I think that this is quite a big thing as it is so dangourous for us guys in particlular. At least ask permission first its so annoying when it comes outta no were!

maybe a public campign with stalls and badages and marmite sandwhichs???
