Hey Guys, I was at a party and a friend of mine showed me his stick, we're both still TOTAL newbies and I was looking around the internet and I found THREE different staff DVDs I was wondering if people had seen them and could recommend which one to buy? There's the staff groove http://www.firegroove.com/Shop_DVDs.htmContact Staff with Noel and the east coast http://www.contactarts.com/Staff Manipulation http://www.manipulation.firestaff.netHas anyone seen these and which one is the best? I'm really keen to get started and want to get one soon thanks

I beleive fire groove's dvd is mostly spinning technique
Noel's dvd is great. The tutorials are kinda cheesy but get the point across. The inspiratinal stuff is amazing
meg's i cannot wait to get.

I just bought meg's DVD: I really like it for several reasons
1) It explains the basics as well as more advanced theory 2) it covers contact, spinning, throws and doubles 3) the inspirational stuff is fantastic 4) It's actually quite funny and had me laughing out loud in a few places (some tutorial dvds can be quite dour) 5) It shows warmup exercises for the more extreme contact moves and gives some decent advice on why to warm up and how to warm up
haven't seen the others yet, but from what I've seen on COL of FireGroove, I'd expect exceptional production values (is that the right word?) and the 'yoga warm up' looks quite interesting

Staff Crazed: Actually, most of the people are people from the west coast in our dvd except the euro people ; ) Firegroovers: I like how clean and professional fire groove's dvd is. Also how it walks through a wide variety of basic staff spinning technique... MCP's Dvdee.. Ton's of instruction, some with cool animations! Win! Meg's dvd has some cutting edge inspirational bits in contact and doubles in there, amazing stuff... and super bouns!! You get to hear meg and steve's voices!!! I'll not comment about my own, but I'll say, its finished! Cheers to Instruction!

forgive me for being old fashioned but perhaps you could put some tunes on, forget what everyone else does and try to find you own path, your own skills and your own creative style? whilst i dont want to disrespect videos as a source of inspiration i feel uneasy about them as a tool for teaching.
whilst a lot harder than copying tricks from a screen i reckon figuring it out on your own would be of much more value in the long run, it will also help you develop an original style, possibly allowing you a much great amount of self expression and freedom
if you were going to learn tricks from other people i suggest trying to find a good juggling/spining festival or convetion, seeing what inspires you and then trying to put your own slant on that. who knows maybe you could create something totally unique and inspire others to be creative and follow thier own path? this is an artform after all with no rules and very few limits apart from those you allow to be imposed on yourself

True Tim but for some it helps to see what is physically possible, if you know what moves are out there you can meld them into your own style I know I do some moves different to other people. some people have limited funds or are in out of the way places and can't often get to the conventions or festivals or are too young to go alone, so a DVD is a very helpful tool for those who learn visually.

I still intend to get Meg's DVD for doubles to see what I'm missing also because I'm interested in seeinig if she has any useful teaching pointers I can use for workshops/advice as I sometimes stumble explaining what I do to others because I do it automatically.
