Thought about adding this to the club swinging thread but figured it was a different enough skill to warrant a new thread. This one is for contacty type moves, if you have a cool spinning move post it in the other thread.

So I've just got into club manipulation and contact club. So far im only doing contact staff moves with clubs but i've seen some pretty sick manipulation at conventions and would love to learn some more. I dont know the names of any club manipulation moves so if anyone could enlighten me with some moves or even better a video or 2 id be grateful.

So, tricks i have so far;
Fishtails, can only hold them for around 4 or 5 beats but getting better.
Minimum front side steve which seems easier than a steve, sometimes an actual steve.
Angel rolls, not that hard if you have them fairly solid with a staff.
Halo rolls, again not that hard if you can do them with a staff.
Conveyor belts, seem to be quite easy to enter but bloody hard to exit cleanly.
Head spins, actually easier than with a staff.

Thats about everything so far, I know there are some people out there that are doing some really cool stuff so would love to hear from them.

One of the main things i have found is that entering a move with the club handle facing up rather than down (so it is upside down) seems to make it behave better.

Obviously clubs are a totally different prop to staffs so there must be a whole world of moves i havnt even thought of yet. What id like to see from this thread is something like the 'i learnt a new staff move' thread a while back, where we all tried each others moves and posted variations we found along the way.

Probably an obvious one, but head rolls are fun. Mostly they are done from side to side, but they'll work front to back, diagonal etc

Never quite got them working while actually juggling though.

I'd be looking to poach moves from bar flair as well as contact staff...

Here's a frickin' hard one:

Outer-elbow balance, with arm bent, hand on shoulder.
Straighten arm, club does half-spin (pushed along forearm)
Inner-elbow catch with arm straight.

Seen it done, annoys the hell out of me
(With a PX3 for reference, I'm not convinced it's do-able with a radical fish, or at least that's my excuse)

Nice one Durbs, now you mention it, i've seen people doing that one, looks bloody difficult - therefore worthwhile

Yea PX3's seem to be the best clubs for contact, they are a bit heavier and have the nicest weight distribution i've played with to date.

If you look up Wes Peden on YouTube, I know he has some in his vids, but I'm not sure which one. He also uses the opposite club to help set, balance, etc.
I know he does some sick $(!# that makes me quite green.

I've just seen this topic! Exciting one!

You should look up Elias Hedlund's video I think all you scientists are crackpots This is one of the ever best manipulation I've ever seen.

There is also that belgian guy called Sanders! Nice style
Full frontal juggling

His brother is also a good one, but he is more focused on clubs balance
Here

Enjoy!! These videos are very impressive to me. Hope u'll like them cool

Yea, that Sanders guy was good.

Also, Wes Peden, yea, he's a great juggler.
Good people too.

I agree though, I've been having some difficulty with the transition from using a staff to using a club.

Also, going the other way is hard too, I can hardly do chops properly while juggling 3 staffs.... staves? *shrug*

But seriously, I can't juggle three full sized contact staf.. staves yet.... Yet!

I made this little video.

It's got some club contact tricks in it. It could be just the tiny version of a longer video.

I was just wondering if people liked club contact and wanted to see a longer video with other tricks, some text names/tutorial/tips and lots of basics and progressions. It's quite easy for me to learn from a dark youtube video of a performance, filmed from the back on a mobile phone, when a club contact trick is done at full speed once, but I think it might be quite hard for other people who perhaps don't do so much club contact.

Plus I, like everyone else, love Wes Peden so I will make this video for him.

Yes! I like seeing new things, and have not really seen much club contact. (Probably looking in the wrong places, but anyway.)

I must get hold of some clubs....

I like the video although like anything in juggling it definantly needs some work although I can see that being incorperated into a juggling routine.
