There are some designers out there doing this already (names are not coming to top of mind right now..but I see them on ebay and have been to their stores).
So, why not see what they are doing and then think of a completely different way to go with it?
Surely that sounds like a good place to start.
As for things like hoodies, t-s, etc. they'd have to be really something to get me to buy them because the market is saturated with them already, and with computer designs and printers, I can make my own with the designs I love *really* inexpensively and not have to worry about another spinner duplicating (which I don't anyway).
That being said, I love cool color combinations because it stands out in stark contrast to fire colors and the typical colors used on non-fire toys (the yellows and reds). I enjoy these being highlighted with accents of metallics.
I hate black. It doesn't show off the body at all, and in any movement art, it should.
Designs I think should accent a body. Harsh lines like stripes and such (aside from maybe down the leg) tend to make the wearer look..eh. Love strong tribals and things with "personality". I can not stand flame patterns, with a heated passion actually. It's cliche, overused, not amusing and can be purchased at the nearest goth shop.
As for designs, the ideas you put forth seem very logo-ish to me. If you put out a "Common Ground" hoodie, then I would assume that proceeds will go to the event and would wear it proudly as a logo. (small on front, larger on back)
However for basic designs, I don't want it to look like a logo for several reasons. People won't pay attention to my spinning while they are trying to make out who I am representing on my clothes. And since I represent me, that is not something I wish to convey (and I know it happens as I will often be destracted by an overdone costume or a tattoo or writing rather than watching the performance, as do many people I know.)
So, there is my .02
Keep us informed as to how it is going!
