They are hardly Draconian rules...

draconian

Just because you know a word, it doesnt mean you know what it means!

 Written by: Wikipedia

The stringency of his {Draco - look at the wiki link} legal code gave rise to the modern English word "draconian," meaning marked by extreme severity or cruelty, especially about laws or governments.

Just a random bit of information for everyone

Hi all,

Please accept our apologies for the huge delay in getting this up and running, but now, the competitions entry portal is up and running (and we extended the deadline a little).

The way it works is that once the voting date is reached, voting will be automatically enabled. You can vote for every single entry you like if you want - there is no restriction on the number of votes you can cast - except you can only vote once for each entry you like.
People who are late, or join after the voting starts, will still be able to enter right up until the voting closes - they just won't have as long for their entry to be exposed to receive votes as those who enter before voting starts.

Check it out at the "Competitions" tab, or
go here

I've seen some pretty awesome photo's that some of you have sent us, so we are waiting with anticipation for some really classy shots to appear! So now, over to you!

Apparently the 12th? That unfortunately only gives people who don't check the site often about two weeks to get entries in.

I submitted one and may try for another :]

entries accepted right up until close of voting - but if your entry is there when the voting starts you increase your chances of getting more votes.

And depending on how many entries are received by 12th, we might delay the start of voting due to the late arrival of the entry portal. I was kinda working on the principal that most people knew the competition and would be ready to roll about now so we would be flooded with entries as soon as the portal went up.
We'll see how it goes.

PS Hi Kael! How's Chiang Mai?

I have a question, it may be a little silly but I wanna get this clear:

The rules state...

"Images must include at least one element of poi/staff arts being displayed. The performer does not need to be visible - but the prop/toy must."

Does that mean that the only toys/props allowed are poi and/or staff? Are we allowed other fire toys or not?

other toys are allowed - hoop, flags, etc. - "spinning and twirling". Fire is not a prerequisite at all. Other fire toys are probably fine if they fall into the "spinning and twirling" category - except as for COL there is No Fire Breathing.

If you want to be more specific, ask away!

Well I've submitted a pic called "Night of the Burn, Burning Man, Nevada" and it shows my partner doing a hold with a burning "wheel". We use "wheels" in our shows all the time and technically they do spin. I LOVE the shot and think it's stunning but I don't want to waste a submission on a piece of equipment that technically isn't "spinning and twirling" (although in reality it does spin like a wheel).

Can you have a look at the pic and tell me if it would be discounted on that technicality?

I saw that pic and think it's great. I would definitely say it qualifies but understand why you'd want to check.

Contact juggling, yay or nay?

It's not technically spinning, or twirling, or fire...

LTC - refer answer to Durbs' question about acrylics on P1 - basically if it looks like an internationally recognisable location with object manipulation calendar pic then you should submit it. You can't win with no entry...

Hooray for the extension, gave us chance to re-shoot after everything had come out totally out of focus before running off to PLaY

(Spanner's idea and photo, I just span and brought the toys)

and it looks good too Yakumo!

For everyone else in the same position, voting will automatically be enabled this Sunday the 12th Aug and ends 16 Sep. BUT new entries can still be submitted right up until the end of voting. It just means that late entries may miss out on some potential votes.

Some good photo's submitted so far (as well as some which may be good fire photo's but without any visible landmarks, are not exactly like we are looking for).

George

<rant> Really I'm all for PLUR but the least you can do when entering a competition is read the rules, especially just before submitting an entry..</rant>

any chance someone could add a comments function to the entries, or is that being saved till voting?
