Afternoon all,

I'm thinking of getting myself a PDA or Pocket PC some time soon so that I can re-program my HyperLights when I'm out at festivals 'n things. I need something with the following:

1) Absolutely MUST have a usb socket.
2) Cheap!
3) Reasonable battery life.
4) Should run an O/S I can code for (Windows Mobile would be ideal).
5) Ideally a decent graphics card so I can have a small display of what the poi will look like before I hit the 'program' button.

Any suggestions?

Are you likely to be eligable for a phone upgrade anytiome soon Jon? Most Service providers offer rebadged HTC WM5 PDA phones which would do the job, plus you could just uise you old phone and keep the new one as a pda

Sign up? Probably still cheaper than getting a new one, OR ebay?

umm. if you want pocketpc based, i'd think about an IPAQ or go for a PalmOS based.

they both have their advantages and disadvantages.

pocketpc obviously cause if you can code C++/VB then you can write your own apps for it or port over some windows apps.

i think the question you should be asking is since you want to reprogram your hyperlights, do they use a proprietary interface or is it opensource or what?

My 3 Cents....

1) don't get a Symbian phone the SDK Sucks ass in a big way!
2) WM5 phones rock.. (I have one though http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=138476)
3) You may as well get a contract as these things are expensive...
4) Get them here ... http://www.expansys.com/ out of contract
5) I'm not sure about the usb socket on them weather it can be a host.
6) I have an old one you can have if you wanna borrow? This one >> http://www.trustedreviews.com/article.aspx?art=1749
