Just found this link (ok someone showed it to me)

Domesday Book

You can see if your town (in the UK) was in the Domesday book, and see what it was called in the book, and the people mentioned in it. Even order a copy of the page about your town!

Thought it was interesting. I was born in, "Aultone" (carshalton as it's now known!)
and have lived in, Waleton (wallington), Croindene (croydon), Escafeld/Scafeld (sheffield) and Bristou (bristol)
