Well for me, having a move 'solid' used to mean not having to think about it, that it would just happen while I was playing.
After having to make a routine and do performances... I don't know anymore.

i feel like i have a move when i can do it on cue, without having to think it through... and land it every time...
like my figure of eight is solid as a rock...
my reverse fishtails on my right hand are solid

It can be similar here I see:
- Foreward - Backward - Turn left - Turn right

i agree I can do a jesus 99 times out of 100 off my right hand but only 1 in 3 off my left. continuous conveyor off both hands i can do without thinking... oh and off topic 3 ball cascade i can do blindfolded so i think i have that trick I think "having a move down" is a hard thing to pin down. being "able to do a move" is also a bone on here somewhat I ask strugz then how many times in a row without messing then when I can do it he always ups it, cheeky bugger

Is it even possible to 'have' a contact move perfectly? I feel more realistically any single move can be infinitely perfected. Faster, slower, softer, smaller body movements, etc.
Maybe the more important question is, how clean does a contact stick move have to be to look impressive (meaning to a non contact stick playing audience member)?

I count myself as having a move when I can do it 20 times on a loop with no mistakes, and can transition to and from it from every other position that it is possible to do so. I count myself as being good at a move when I can do it 60 times without error or pause, complete with error-free transitions and integrations into a routine. That applies to staff, poi, whatever... but maybe thats just me

Er, well, from the standpoint of the most professional jugglers I know, you don't even HAVE a move unless you can do 200 throws each time you try, including on a bad day. So I suppose being 'good' at a move would be the 200 iterations while simultaneously poncing about, or without looking?

What, you make a mistake on the 61st iteration and you still think you're "good" at a move??!??
pfft, i dunno. These amateurs and their low standards...
to my mind you are never going to end up doing more than 60 of one move in a row, for fear of boring your audience! Much more for the perfect transition, the executed move, and the next transition. The 60 is just something I use when I practise a move
you pros and your pedantic outlook

You havent got a move if you cant pull it off everytime, in the wind in front of an audience. I dont have any moves Josh

man this thread is moving into that "there are no moves, there is no stick" twaddle......... if there were no moves, there would be no movement, therefore you may as well just watch a piece of concrete for insperation Hippies But to be fair you all i do agree slightly........ there is no specific move (families id go with) ie. a static move has a name, but its the move its come from and going too which is everchanging, meaning you can never really have a move solid......... you can only improve your flow and general control......... actually, thats what you saying isnt it......... *wanders off to find a tree to *

sometimes, i consider i've "got" a move even though i can't "do" it, because i've worked out what it is i have to do.
there's an infinite progression in pretty much any discipline based on physical movement. Just ask Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
Why bother prescribing some random number of iterations?
if i'm copying someone else's movement, i usually end up feeling like i've never quite got it, because the way i do it is never exactly the same.
"it is not the move that counts, but the dance" eg: its not what you do with the stick, but what you do with your ass? maybe if i was a stripper. But i'm not. i'm NOT! Stop putting money down my pants!
