Spinning a staff all pretty like in a fight gets you a whack in the face from the opposition. *nods*

How about:

“Think not of the staff as being rigid, but of your mind as being the thing that is inflexible.”

And what’s all this crap about “Poi is life” anyway. As a wise man once said: “Staff is not a matter of life and death – its much more important than that.” Or words to that effect.

(poem: )

different skillsets.
similar skillsets.
the more you know of one.
the easy another will be.
any manipulated object.
not just the poi and staff.
easy/not easy is relative.

Or:

The night aflame -
A rigid staff bends only
with soft hands.

Wait....no that doesnt make sense.

Dammit!

Think of your staff as water
all you can do is shape its path
no matter what you do you can never truly halt it
it will find some way to flow through you

Reading this thread reminds me of a zen proverb...

novice rushes up to staff jedi;

"Master, I finally understand. There is no staff! "

!!! BONK !!!

"So how do you explain the lump on your head? "

What he said

*hits firetom on the head with a staff*

"How good are you at staff?" Someone asked me.

"How good?" said I.

"Yes", said the boy, "Which level?"

I replied to him, "Level, eh? Well, I suppose I'd be level 1."

"Just starting?"

And then I looked him in the eyes, and I knew what it was to be a spinner. Quietly I spoke to him then. "Yes. Just starting, every day, just starting."

(Points to the person who recognises the exchange!)
